Revenues of Saudi Non-profit Sector Increase by 33% to SR54.4 billion in 2023

In 2023, the General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT) in Saudi Arabia reported that the non-profit sector’s revenues totaled SR54.4 billion, marking a significant 33% increase from the previous year. Among the various activities in the non-profit sector, health activities saw the highest growth rates of 70%, followed by education and research activities at 53%, and volunteering and volunteer promotion activities at 36%. These key activities played a crucial role in contributing to the total revenues of non-profit sector organizations.

On the expenditure side, the non-profit sector saw total expenditures of SR47 billion in 2023, with health activities leading the way with a 74% increase in spending compared to the previous year. Education and research activities followed closely behind with a 55% increase, and environmental activities recorded a 34% increase in expenditures. These activities were the main contributors to the total expenditures of non-profit sector organizations, reflecting the sector’s commitment to various societal needs and causes.

The statistics also highlighted the significant contribution of workers in various non-profit sector activities during 2023. Culture and entertainment activities had the highest percentage of workers contributing at 27.6%, followed by social services activities at 27.2%, and development and housing activities at 12.4%. Health activities and education and research activities also had a substantial number of workers contributing, showcasing the diverse range of activities within the non-profit sector.

Total compensation for workers in non-profit sector organizations reached SR21.7 billion in 2023, with education and research activities showing a significant 84% increase in total compensation for workers compared to the previous year. Environmental activities and volunteer mediators and volunteer promotion activities also saw increases of 38% and 29% respectively. These activities were the primary contributors to the total compensation of workers within the non-profit sector, reflecting the importance of supporting workers engaged in various philanthropic endeavors.

Overall, the statistics for the non-profit sector in Saudi Arabia in 2023 reflect a positive trend of growth and contribution to societal well-being. With increasing revenues, expenditures, and a significant number of workers engaged in various activities, the non-profit sector continues to play a crucial role in addressing key societal needs in the country. As health, education, and volunteering activities show substantial increases in both revenues and expenditures, it is evident that the sector is focused on making a significant impact and serving the community in a meaningful way.
