A total of 222 horses are expected to participate, representing Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Bahrain. Qualifying rounds will be held for colts, fillies, mares, and stallions over the first three days, culminating in championship finals on the last day to determine the winners in each class. This year’s show builds on the success of previous editions, solidifying Qatar’s position as a key hub for equestrian sports.

The Growing Popularity of the Arabian Horse Show

The Doha International Arabian Horse Show has quickly become a significant date in the regional equestrian calendar. This growth reflects the increasing importance of Arabian horse breeding and showing within the Gulf States, and Qatar’s commitment to supporting this heritage. The event provides a platform for breeders and owners to present their finest horses and compete for recognition.

Traditionally, Arabian horses have held a special place in the culture of the Arabian Peninsula, valued for their endurance, beauty, and intelligence. These qualities have made them highly sought after for both riding and showing. The show aims to preserve and promote the breed’s unique characteristics.

Competition Details and Prize Money

Each championship will award gold, silver, and bronze medals to the top three competitors. The financial incentives are considerable, with QR120,000 awarded for first place, QR90,000 for second, and QR70,000 for third in each championship. This substantial prize money is expected to attract top-tier horses and riders from the participating nations.

The competition will be judged based on a standardized system evaluating conformation, movement, and overall presentation, according to the rules set by the European Conference of Arab Horse Organisations (ECAHO). Judges will assess each horse’s adherence to the breed standard, looking for qualities like a refined head, high tail carriage, and graceful gait.

Notable Participants

Several prominent studs from Qatar will be competing, including Al Shaqab Stud, renowned for its world-class breeding program, as well as Al Sraiya Stud, Al Khor Stud, Al Jaham Stud, Al Amer Stud, Al Yaqoub Stud and Umm Al Adham Stud. These studs consistently produce high-quality Arabian horses that excel in international competitions.

International participation will include leading Saudi Arabian studs such as Al Khawolid Stud, Nasser bin Khaled Nasser Aludail and Rayan Alsayqal. Bahrain will be represented by Mohamed Ahmed Alhayki and Abdulla Al-Mudahka, while Kuwait will see entries from Talal Al Rashidi and Al Shuraian & Al Rasman Stud. The presence of these established international competitors adds to the prestige of the event and the quality of the horse showing.

Additionally, the show serves as an important networking opportunity for breeders, trainers, and enthusiasts. It facilitates the exchange of knowledge and best practices within the Arabian horse community. The event also contributes to Qatar’s tourism sector, attracting visitors interested in equestrian sports and Arabian culture.

Looking ahead, organizers will focus on refining the logistical aspects of the show and potentially expanding international participation in future years. The final list of participating horses and riders will be released closer to the event date, and further details regarding judging panels and show schedules are expected to be announced by QREC in the coming months. The success of the 2025 show will likely influence plans for the 6th edition and Qatar’s continued investment in equestrian events.
