The 4th Arab Mathematics Olympiad 2024, organized by the Ministry of Education and Higher Education in partnership with Alecso and the Qatar National Commission for Education, Culture, and Science, recently concluded in Doha. Qatari students shone brightly, winning a total of eight medals, including one gold, five silver, and two bronze. Minister of Education and Higher Education H E Lolwah bint Rashid Al Khater and Alecso Director-General Mohamed Ould Amar honored the winning students and teams from Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, and Algeria for their outstanding performance.
In her closing speech, Minister Lolwah bint Rashid Al Khater expressed gratitude to Minister of Social Development and Family, H E Buthaina bint Ali Al Jabr Al Nuaimi, for her efforts in ensuring the success of the Olympiad. She also thanked everyone involved in making the event a success, emphasizing that each person’s contribution plays a vital role in serving the nation. Additionally, Assistant Undersecretary for Educational Affairs at MoEHE, Maha Zayed Al Ruwaili, and Alecso’s Director of the Department of Education, Rami Iskander, recognized students who won bronze and silver medals while presenting honorary certificates to those who came close to winning bronze.
During the closing ceremony, Secretary-General of Qatar National Commission for Education, Culture, and Science, Ali Abdulrazzaq Al Marafi, highlighted the significance of the Arab Mathematics Olympiad in fostering cooperation and exchange of ideas among Arab students. He praised the students for their ambition, knowledge, and dedication to excellence, noting that they are the future leaders who will shape the region’s scientific identity. The presence of delegates from 22 Arab countries at the event reflects joint Arab cooperation and support for nurturing a generation prepared to face future challenges.
Director of the Department of Education at Alecso, Rami Iskander, commended Qatar for hosting the Olympiad with international standards. He noted that this edition stood out due to the increased number of participating countries and the diverse range of scientific and cultural activities offered throughout the event. The competition brought together 83 talented male and female students from the mathematics elite in the Arab world, promoting a spirit of friendly competition and collaboration among specialists in the field. Iskander also underscored the importance of investing in youth to ensure a brighter future for the region.
The success of the 4th Arab Mathematics Olympiad aligns with Qatar’s educational strategy for 2024-2030, aimed at building an innovative educational system that fosters creativity and prepares a generation capable of navigating future challenges.
