Qatar Foundation (QF) is set to host the Arab Global Scholars (AGS) Annual Gathering from November 3-5, 2024. The event aims to bring together Arab scholars and intellectuals to positively impact the development of the region and to address various global challenges. The AGS initiative has been evolving since 2006 when QF gathered a group of Arab expatriate scientists to establish a scientific research network to support knowledge-based economies in the region. This network eventually transformed into the current AGS community, with Doha serving as its central hub.

The AGS community focuses on innovation and aims to connect Arab scholars with universities, research centers, government entities, and industry partners in Qatar and beyond. The initiative is supported by Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU), a research-intensive academic institution that recognizes the importance of collaboration to develop impactful solutions at local, regional, and global levels. AGS members and partner organizations include some of the most significant institutions in Qatar and beyond.

The AGS Annual Gathering will feature distinguished Arab-origin scholars from various fields, whether based in Qatar, their home countries, or elsewhere in the world. The three-day program, led by HBKU, will focus on building networks among Arab scholars, universities, research institutes, and industry partners to drive collaboration in education, research, and innovation across diverse fields. The event will lay the foundation for ongoing partnerships and collaborations to further advance research and innovation in the region.

Dr. Hilal Lashuel, an American-Yemeni scientist and long-time member of AGS, highlighted the initiative’s core mission to promote ‘brain gain’ and ‘brain circulation’ in the Middle East and North Africa. AGS aims to develop new models of collaboration among Arab scholars to advance research, innovation, and economic growth in Qatar and beyond. Qatar’s commitment to supporting Arab scholars globally and locally demonstrates its dedication to progress and regional development through investments in initiatives that leverage Arab expertise.

President of Hamad Bin Khalifa University, Dr. Ahmad M. Hasnah, emphasized how AGS enhances the exchange of knowledge within Qatar and the MENA region. By linking industry, academia, and government partners, AGS amplifies the Arab voice in global conversations and contributes to national development objectives. The initiative solidifies Qatar’s position as a knowledge hub and showcases its commitment to inspiring future generations for the benefit of Arab populations and the region. Through AGS, Qatar continues to drive progress and innovation, positioning itself as a leader in fostering collaboration and advancing research in various fields.
