The Ministry of Labour in Oman has recently issued Ministerial Decision No. 501/2024, which amends the provisions of Ministerial Resolution No. 235/2022. This decision aims to regulate the practice of certain professions and restrict them exclusively to Omani nationals. Several additional professions have been added to the list of jobs prohibited for expat workers in Oman under Article 1 of the new decision. These new restricted professions include roles such as hotel reception manager, lifeguard, tourist agent, travel agent, quality control manager, drilling supervisor, marketing specialist, and more.

The newly restricted professions are now reserved exclusively for Omani nationals, reflecting the government’s ongoing efforts to increase employment opportunities for citizens. By limiting expat workers from practicing certain professions, the government aims to create more job opportunities for Omanis in various fields. This decision is in line with Oman’s nationalization policy, which seeks to prioritize the employment of Omani nationals in the job market.

The decision to restrict certain professions to Omani nationals is part of the government’s overall strategy to promote economic growth and development in the country. By prioritizing the employment of citizens in key roles, the government aims to strengthen the local workforce and reduce dependence on foreign labor. This move is expected to benefit the local economy by creating more job opportunities for Omanis and increasing the overall competitiveness of the workforce.

The list of newly restricted professions includes a wide range of roles across different sectors, from hospitality and tourism to engineering and marketing. By reserving these roles for Omani nationals, the government hopes to create a more inclusive job market that prioritizes the interests of citizens. This decision is also aimed at ensuring that Omani workers have access to higher-skilled and better-paying jobs, ultimately improving their quality of life and contributing to overall economic growth in the country.

Overall, the Ministry of Labour’s decision to restrict certain professions to Omani nationals reflects the government’s commitment to promoting local employment and creating more opportunities for citizens in the job market. By prioritizing the employment of Omani nationals in key roles, the government aims to increase the competitiveness of the local workforce and reduce dependence on foreign labor. This move is expected to have a positive impact on the economy by creating more job opportunities for Omanis and supporting overall economic growth and development in the country.
