The Oman Academic Accreditation Authority (OAAA) is set to launch the National System for Evaluating School Performance in the Sultanate of Oman on December 2, 2024, as announced by Her Excellency Dr. Jokha bint Abdullah Al Shukaili, CEO of the OAAA. This initiative aligns with the Authority’s mission to establish a national system that ensures the quality of school and higher education in Oman, maintaining international standards and encouraging institutions to implement internal systems for quality assurance. The system aims to enhance the efficiency of both governmental and private educational institutions through accurate review processes and comprehensive reports based on specific standards and indicators.

The development of the National System for Evaluating School Performance involved various stages of construction, experimentation, and review, as highlighted by Dr. Al Shukaili. The standards and indicators were carefully crafted to align with national goals, competencies required by the labor market, and changes in the educational landscape. Local and international consultations, along with input from schools with diverse contexts, were key components in ensuring the system’s effectiveness and suitability for schools in Oman. This comprehensive approach reflects the Authority’s commitment to continuous improvement and excellence in educational performance.

Dr. Thuraya bint Saif Al Hosni, Director General of the Center for Quality Assurance of School Education, emphasized that the new evaluation system will bring about a significant positive change in schools across Oman. It will involve field visits by specialized auditors and the preparation of detailed reports that identify strengths and improvement opportunities based on evidence of each school’s performance. This approach will help schools and supervisory bodies develop strategic plans to enhance overall performance. Additionally, the framework aims to establish partnerships with the Ministry of Education and other relevant authorities to enhance educational quality in the Sultanate.

The National System for Evaluating School Performance is a crucial step towards achieving Oman Vision 2040’s educational priorities, highlighting the importance of education, learning, and scientific research. By keeping pace with global developments in education quality, the system positions Oman as a distinguished educational hub regionally and internationally. Furthermore, it fosters a stimulating and innovative educational environment that supports comprehensive student growth and meets the expectations of parents and society in enhancing education quality. The system also emphasizes the importance of cooperation with international and regional institutions to exchange expertise and experiences for sustainable educational excellence.

Overall, the launch of the National System for Evaluating School Performance demonstrates the OAAA’s dedication to improving education quality in Oman and maintaining international standards. Through a meticulous development process and collaboration with various stakeholders, the system aims to drive continuous improvement in school performance, establishing sustainable partnerships and fostering a supportive educational environment. By aligning with Oman Vision 2040 and global educational trends, the Sultanate aims to enhance its position as a reputable educational center, meeting the needs and aspirations of students, parents, and society for quality education.
