The Sultanate of Oman emphasized the importance of establishing the Palestinian state and granting full membership to the State of Palestine in the United Nations as the key to ending conflicts in the Middle East region. Oman expressed disappointment over the Security Council’s failure to pass a resolution granting Palestine its rightful membership, which goes against the international consensus for Palestinian self-determination. The Sultanate called for fair and equal treatment of all parties involved in the Palestinian issue, and urged the Security Council to uphold international law and UN resolutions to promote security, stability, and peace in the region and worldwide.

In its speech before the United Nations General Assembly, Oman also joined other nations in calling for a reassessment of the Security Council’s working mechanisms, particularly regarding the use of veto power. The Sultanate stressed the need for responsible and legal use of the veto to align with the goals of the United Nations in upholding international law and humanitarian principles, in order to maintain the legitimacy and credibility of the international body. Oman welcomed a Security Council resolution supporting a comprehensive and permanent ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, urging all parties to implement it promptly and calling on the international community to ensure compliance by the Israeli occupying state.

Oman urged Israel to fulfill its obligations and international demands to halt aggressive actions against the Gaza Strip and other occupied Palestinian territories, in order to pave the way for a two-state solution and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital. The Sultanate emphasized the importance of achieving peace and stability in the region through the implementation of the ceasefire agreement and the promotion of dialogue and cooperation among all parties involved. Oman’s stance on the Palestinian issue reflects its commitment to upholding justice and peace in the Middle East and supporting the rights of the Palestinian people to sovereignty and self-determination.

In conclusion, Oman’s position at the United Nations highlights the country’s dedication to promoting peace and stability in the Middle East region through the establishment of a Palestinian state and adherence to international law and UN resolutions. The Sultanate’s call for a review of the Security Council’s workings, particularly regarding the use of the veto, underscores its commitment to upholding the principles and values of the United Nations in the pursuit of global peace and security. Oman’s support for the ceasefire agreement in Gaza and its insistence on Israel’s compliance with international demands demonstrate its commitment to achieving a just and lasting resolution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict to bring about peace and stability in the region.
