The Northern Municipal Council recently held its final session in 2024, focusing on the development of green spaces and public facilities. One of the key proposals approved during the session was the construction of a new park in Block 1204, Hamad Town. This initiative was proposed by Jasim Mohamed Hejris, the representative of the eighth constituency, who highlighted the urgent need for more green spaces in the area, especially for children and the elderly. The council approved the proposal, noting that the land for the park is already owned by the Northern Municipality.

Another proposal that was discussed during the session was regarding the development of Al Budaiya Park in Block 555, Al Budaiya area. However, this proposal faced opposition from Deputy Chairperson Zaina Jasim and Zainab Al Derazi, the representative of the 12th constituency. They argued that a previous letter had already confirmed the park’s inclusion in the 2025 budget, making a new proposal unnecessary. Instead, they suggested sending a letter to the Undersecretary of Municipalities to confirm the project’s inclusion in the 2025 plans, referencing a 2021 letter estimating the project cost at 12,000 Bahraini dinars.

Furthermore, the council reviewed responses from the Minister of Municipalities Affairs regarding several proposals. One of the rejected proposals was for the construction of a playground on plot number 10045738 in Block 1012, Al Hamala. The Ministry recommended preserving the land for future development as a park to meet the needs of the surrounding residential area. Similarly, a proposal to allocate plot number 05032146 in Block 581, Salman Town, for public parking was also rejected. The Ministry suggested maintaining the plot as a park, given Salman Town’s modern planning and existing public services.

Overall, the Northern Municipal Council’s last session in 2024 focused on the importance of developing green spaces and public facilities in various areas. Proposals for new parks and facilities were discussed and approved, taking into account the needs of the community, particularly children and the elderly. Despite some opposition to certain proposals, the council worked towards ensuring that adequate green spaces are maintained in residential areas for the well-being of residents. The rejection of proposals for playgrounds and public parking in favor of preserving land for future park development reflects the council’s commitment to providing essential amenities to its residents.
