The National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) is organizing the Inaugural Business and Human Rights Dialogue in the Arab States Region, which will begin today. Around 200 participants, including representatives of national human rights institutions, international experts, academics, and online participants, are expected to attend the two-day dialogue. The event will feature plenary sessions, expert panels, and focus group discussions on various aspects of business and human rights, such as corporate respect for women’s rights, children’s rights, labour rights, and the right to a clean and sustainable environment.

Participants in the dialogue will share their views on best practices and strategies for addressing business-related human rights challenges in the region. This event marks the first regional dialogue in Arab countries focused on aligning company practices with international human rights standards. Topics to be covered include human rights due diligence in conflict-affected areas, giving a voice to affected communities such as migrant workers and women, and facilitating cooperation between regional and international stakeholders to address common human rights challenges.

The dialogue is a platform for marginalized groups to share their experiences and contribute to policy-making. It also aims to promote South-South and South-North cooperation by bringing together stakeholders from the region and from around the world. The event is being held in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme, the Arab Network of National Human Rights Institutions, the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions, the UN Working Group on Business and Human Rights, the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, and Unicef.
