The Ministry of Public Health in Qatar has confirmed that the country is free of any cases of Mpox (Monkeypox), thanks to stringent public health measures in place. These measures, including heightened surveillance for early detection of cases, have been reinforced in response to the World Health Organization’s declaration of Mpox as a public health emergency. Health professionals in both the public and private sectors are fully prepared to manage any suspected or confirmed cases, with authorities monitoring potential developments as the situation evolves.

It is extremely unlikely for community members in Qatar to contract the Mpox virus unless they have recently traveled to endemic countries in Africa or been in close contact with an individual who has the virus. The Ministry of Public Health is working closely with relevant authorities to ensure the early detection of cases entering Qatar from affected countries, continuing to monitor the global and regional epidemiological situation and taking necessary precautionary measures as needed.

The World Health Organization declared Mpox a public health emergency due to a rapid increase in cases within East and Central Africa, where the virus was first discovered in 1958. Mpox primarily occurs in tropical rainforest areas of Central and West Africa, with occasional exports to other regions. The virus is transmitted through close contact with an infected person, animal, or contaminated material, causing symptoms such as fever, rashes, flu-like symptoms, and lesions. While most cases are mild, severe cases can occur in children, pregnant women, and individuals with weakened immune systems.

In light of the evolving situation and global concern over Mpox, the Ministry of Public Health in Qatar is committed to maintaining and enforcing stringent public health measures to prevent the introduction of the virus into the country. Health authorities are continuously monitoring developments and collaborating with relevant agencies to ensure early detection and effective management of any suspected cases. By staying vigilant and proactive, Qatar is taking the necessary steps to protect its population from the potential threat of Mpox.

By emphasizing the importance of early detection, vigilance, and collaboration with relevant authorities, the Ministry of Public Health in Qatar is demonstrating its commitment to safeguarding the health and well-being of its population. Public health measures, including heightened surveillance and preparedness of healthcare professionals, will continue to be enforced to prevent the spread of Mpox in the country. Through these efforts, Qatar remains vigilant in protecting its residents from potential health threats, such as Mpox, and is ready to respond effectively to any future developments in the situation.
