Ministry Celebrates International Plastic Bag Free Day with a Range of Activities

The Ministry of Municipality in Doha, Qatar recently celebrated the International Plastic Bag Free Day on July 3rd by organizing a series of educational events and activities in commercial malls. The main focus of these activities was to raise awareness about the harmful effects of single-use plastic bags on the environment and encourage the use of eco-friendly alternatives like cloth bags. The aim of these initiatives is to support the Qatar National Vision 2030 (QNV 2030) which emphasizes sustainability and environmental conservation.

During the event, the ministry distributed awareness publications and environmentally friendly bags to the public, showcasing their efforts to reduce the use of plastic bags. They also highlighted Ministerial Decision No. 143 of 2022 which outlines controls on the use of plastic bags, as well as Public Hygiene Law No. 18 of 2017 amended by Law No. 6 of 2023. Additionally, the solid waste sorting program from the source and Ministerial Decision No. 170 of 2021 were explained to the public, further emphasizing the importance of waste management and recycling.

The activities organized by the Ministry of Municipality were not only educational but also included various entertainment options for children and the public. By engaging people of all ages in fun and interactive ways, the ministry was able to effectively convey their message about the importance of reducing plastic waste and preserving the environment for future generations. These initiatives aim to instill a sense of responsibility and environmental consciousness in the community.
