Legal action taken against 79 car dealers and distributors for breaching Competition Law

The Saudi General Authority for Competition has taken action against 79 firms in the automobile sector for violating the Competition Law during the year 2023. These violations included fixing prices, dividing markets by geographical regions, and curtailing competition, all of which had a negative impact on consumer welfare. Criminal cases have been filed against 64 of these establishments, with the remaining 15 currently in the process of settling the charges against them.

In addition to the automobile sector, the authority also filed criminal lawsuits against establishments in various other sectors. This includes pharmacies and retail markets fixing prices for health products, poultry and egg production companies colluding to fix prices, computer programming firms weakening their competitive position, and establishments colluding in bids totaling SR600 million. The authority is also working on bringing lawsuits against establishments in information technology, health authorities, and advertising firms for violating provisions of the Competition Law.

The General Authority for Competition is committed to ensuring fair competition in the market and protecting consumer rights.
