The Services Committee of the Shura Council recently met with representatives from the Ministry of Tourism, led by Sara Buheji, the Chief Executive Officer of the Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority (BTEA), to discuss a draft law regulating timeshare in accommodation units. The meeting focused on the draft law accompanying Decree No. (33) of 2023, with the ultimate goal of establishing clear legal frameworks to protect the rights and responsibilities of all parties involved in timeshare arrangements. The aim is to stimulate investment in both the tourism and real estate sectors, with the committee reviewing the Ministry of Tourism’s perspectives on the draft law and proposed amendments and articles.

During the meeting, members of the Services Committee raised questions regarding specific clauses in the proposed legislation. The draft law seeks to provide greater flexibility in contractual agreements, making timeshare arrangements more attractive to investors. A key objective is to build consumer confidence among citizens, residents, and tourists in Bahrain’s timeshare sector. The draft law explains that timeshare is based on the principle of shared ownership or usage of a property over time, highlighting the importance of establishing clear legal frameworks to protect the rights of all parties involved.

Timeshare arrangements, according to the draft law, are designed to offer greater flexibility and attract more investors to the tourism and real estate sectors. The proposed legislation aims to address the concerns of all parties involved in timeshare agreements, with the ultimate goal of stimulating investment and boosting consumer confidence in the sector. By establishing clear legal frameworks and regulating timeshare in accommodation units, the draft law seeks to protect the rights and responsibilities of all parties involved in timeshare arrangements.
