Municipal Council Meeting Addresses Key Development Issues in Al-Buraimi

The Municipal Council of Al-Buraimi, chaired by His Excellency Dr. Hamad bin Ahmed Al-Busaidi, the Governor of Al-Buraimi, convened for its eighth regular meeting of 2026. The council’s discussions focused on various service and development issues, particularly the organization of public cemeteries, truck parking facilities, the completion of road projects, and enhancing road safety within the governorate.

During the meeting, the council reviewed the latest developments in developmental projects, including the awarding of several tenders for the second phase of various initiatives. Additionally, there was a focus on enhancing industrial and commercial areas alongside the new internal road paving projects. To date, 60 kilometers of road have been completed, with 100 kilometers currently under construction and 190 kilometers approved for paving across the three wilayas of the governorate.

Progress on Road and Bridge Projects

The meeting also provided updates on the status of road and bridge initiatives. Progress on the bridges along the route connecting Sohar to Al-Buraimi has reached over 34%. The council has completed the demolition of the Al-Khatwa Bridge in preparation for its reconstruction, while efforts are ongoing to upgrade the Al-Humayda to Al-Mahda road, which is currently 64% complete.

Fostering service accessibility has been high on the council’s agenda, leading to discussions about the organization of public cemeteries and the development of services connected to them. Furthermore, the council addressed the establishment of truck parking lots and stations, which will aid in regulating vehicular movement. The council reviewed feedback from the General Directorate of Housing and Urban Planning concerning a designated area for agricultural purposes in the Al-Zuroob region, as well as the status of existing farms outside their designated plans within the governorate.

Enhancing Traffic Safety and Community Services

In an effort to improve road networks and streamline traffic, the council has approved the continuation of the road linking the northern Al-Aqdah area to the Al-Buraimi-Mahda highway as part of the upcoming road project packages. Additionally, they discussed the proposal for constructing a pedestrian bridge on the main street opposite Ali bin Saif Al-Nuaimi Mosque to enhance pedestrian safety and ensure secure crossing for road users.

The council also examined the minutes from recent meetings of the Health and Environmental Affairs Committee and the Development and Growth Committee for 2026. These sessions outlined several topics related to improving healthcare and environmental services, as well as bolstering overall development within the governorate. Furthermore, the council endorsed the minutes from the seventh council meeting, reinforcing its commitment to governance.

Cultural and Recreational Activities

On a broader community engagement note, the council expressed appreciation for the public turnout at the “Winter in Al-Buraimi” events in Al-Sunainah, which featured activities such as camel racing. They also outlined upcoming events in both Al-Buraimi and Al-Mahda, including a honey and dates exhibition in Al-Mahda.

Looking ahead, the council is expected to continue focusing on infrastructural improvements and community services that directly impact the residents of Al-Buraimi. The successful completion of ongoing projects will be crucial in enhancing the quality of life for all citizens. Future developments to watch include the outcomes of the newly initiated road and bridge projects, as well as potential enhancements in public services related to health and community engagement initiatives.
