In recent times, there has been a rise in fraudulent activities on social media platforms, with scammers posing as wedding planners and e-commerce websites to deceive unsuspecting consumers. The Consumer Protection Directorate of the Ministry of Industry and Commerce has issued a warning about these fraudulent accounts, urging consumers to exercise caution when making transactions online. These scammers often offer attractive packages and products, only to disappear once payment is made, leaving consumers without the services or goods they were promised.

One particular incident cited by the agency involved a couple who booked a wedding venue through a social media offer, only to find out on the day of the booking that no venue had been reserved in their names despite making full payment upfront. This highlights the deceptive tactics used by fraudsters to trick consumers into parting with their money. These scammers operate under closed businesses, making it difficult for consumers to seek redress once they realize they have been duped.

The Consumer Protection Directorate is warning consumers to be vigilant and verify the legitimacy of accounts posing as wedding planners or e-commerce websites. They advise consumers to avoid making upfront payments and report any suspicious activities to the Consumer Protection Directorate immediately. By taking these precautions, consumers can protect themselves from falling victim to online scams and losing their hard-earned money.

It is important for consumers to be aware of the risks associated with online transactions, especially on social media platforms where fraudulent activities are rampant. By being cautious and verifying the legitimacy of accounts before making any payments, consumers can avoid falling prey to scammers. The Consumer Protection Directorate emphasizes the importance of reporting any suspicious activities to them, so that timely action can be taken to prevent further fraudulent activities.

The rise in online scams underscores the need for consumers to be more vigilant and exercise caution when making transactions on social media platforms. As technology advances, scammers are finding new ways to deceive consumers and make a quick buck. It is crucial for consumers to do their due diligence before making any online transactions, especially when dealing with unfamiliar businesses or individuals.

In conclusion, the Consumer Protection Directorate’s warning serves as a timely reminder for consumers to be cautious when conducting transactions online. By being proactive and reporting any suspicious activities, consumers can help in the fight against online scams and protect themselves from falling victim to fraudsters. It is essential for consumers to stay informed and take necessary precautions to safeguard their financial interests when engaging in online transactions.
