The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries have reiterated their dedication to fighting human trafficking in all its forms. They have emphasized the steps they have taken to prevent human trafficking, support victims, and prosecute offenders while adhering to international human rights standards and obligations. The statement was delivered by the Permanent Representative of Qatar to the UN, HE Dr. Hend Abdulrahman Al Muftah, on behalf of the GCC countries. This commitment was highlighted during the “Interactive Dialogue on the Report of the Special Rapporteur on Trafficking in Persons” at the Human Rights Council session in Geneva.

The GCC countries have expressed deep concern over the cases outlined in the Special Rapporteur’s report, especially those involving women and children who are often the victims of human trafficking. They have emphasized the importance of protecting the rights and dignity of all individuals affected by this crime. Additionally, they have stressed the need to assess current practices related to maritime migration to ensure that human rights and dignity are respected. The GCC countries also reaffirmed their pledge to enhance collaboration, strengthen legal and institutional frameworks, develop capacities, and raise public awareness in their efforts to effectively combat human trafficking.

As the current chair of the GCC, Qatar is leading the charge in the fight against human trafficking and has been vocal about the need for global cooperation to tackle this issue. By highlighting the measures they have taken and the challenges they face, the GCC countries are demonstrating their commitment to addressing human trafficking at a regional level. They are also calling for increased international support and collaboration to effectively combat this crime and protect the rights of vulnerable populations, including women and children.

Efforts to combat human trafficking require a multi-faceted approach that includes prevention, protection, and prosecution. The GCC countries have outlined their efforts in each of these areas, showing a comprehensive strategy to address the issue. By focusing on prevention measures, such as raising public awareness and enhancing cooperation, the GCC countries are working to reduce the occurrence of human trafficking. They are also committed to protecting victims and bringing perpetrators to justice, ensuring that those affected by this crime receive the support and protection they need.

Addressing human trafficking also requires a specific focus on maritime migration, which can be a vulnerable point for individuals at risk of exploitation. The GCC countries recognize the importance of evaluating current practices in managing maritime migration to prevent human trafficking and uphold human rights and dignity. By enhancing legal and institutional frameworks, building capacities, and raising public awareness, they aim to create a more effective system for combating human trafficking and supporting those affected by this crime.

In conclusion, the GCC countries’ reaffirmation of their commitment to combating human trafficking highlights the importance of this issue at a regional and global level. By working together to prevent trafficking, protect victims, and prosecute offenders, the GCC countries are demonstrating their dedication to upholding human rights and dignity. Through continued collaboration and efforts to strengthen legal frameworks, build capacities, and raise awareness, the GCC countries are taking concrete steps to address human trafficking and ensure the protection of all individuals, particularly women and children, who are vulnerable to this crime.
