A Syrian official delegation, led by Foreign Minister Assad Al-Shaibani, visited Riyadh for its first official foreign trip. The visit was in response to an invitation from Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan. The Saudi Deputy Foreign Minister, Eng. Waleed Al-Khuraiji, warmly welcomed the delegation upon their arrival at King Khalid International Airport. The Syrian delegation also included Minister of Defense Marhaf Abu Qasra and Intelligence Chief Anas Khattab. Al-Shaibani emphasized the new administration’s commitment to fostering positive relationships between Syria and Saudi Arabia, aiming to start a new and bright chapter in their shared history.

During the visit, the Syrian Foreign Minister expressed his aspirations for improved relations with Saudi Arabia on Platform X. He highlighted the importance of building stronger ties between the two nations. The visit also coincided with the arrival of the first Saudi relief aid convoy in Damascus, carrying essential supplies for the Syrian people, including food, shelter, and medical aid. This gesture demonstrated the willingness of both countries to work together for the benefit of the Syrian population.

The diplomatic engagement between Saudi Arabia and Syria follows recent comments by Ahmed Al-Sharaa, head of the new Syrian administration, praising Saudi Arabia’s potential role in Syria’s future. Al-Sharaa described recent statements from Saudi officials regarding Syria as very positive, indicating a willingness to cooperate and collaborate with Saudi Arabia. The new Syrian administration, established after the ousting of the Assad regime by opposition forces, appointed Al-Shaibani as the new Foreign Minister, signaling a shift in leadership and a renewed focus on building strong diplomatic ties with neighboring countries.

The visit of the Syrian delegation to Riyadh signifies a significant step towards rebuilding diplomatic relations between the two nations. The exchange of visits and gestures of goodwill, such as the Saudi relief aid convoy to Damascus, demonstrate a desire for cooperation and mutual assistance. Both countries have expressed a willingness to work together towards a brighter future, emphasizing the importance of positive engagement and dialogue in resolving regional challenges and conflicts. The visit marks a new chapter in the relationship between Saudi Arabia and Syria, highlighting the potential for enhanced cooperation and collaboration in the future.

As the Syrian delegation continues its visit to Riyadh, discussions are expected to focus on areas of mutual interest and collaboration between the two countries. The presence of high-ranking officials, including the Syrian Foreign Minister, Minister of Defense, and Intelligence Chief, underscores the significance of the visit and the potential for productive dialogue. The exchange of views and perspectives on regional issues, as well as opportunities for economic and strategic cooperation, will be key areas of discussion during the visit. Both Saudi Arabia and Syria are keen to explore avenues for enhancing their bilateral relations and working together on common goals and objectives.

Overall, the visit of the Syrian official delegation to Riyadh represents a positive step towards rebuilding diplomatic ties and fostering constructive engagement between Saudi Arabia and Syria. The exchange of visits, gestures of goodwill, and expressions of mutual respect and cooperation indicate a shared commitment to overcoming past differences and building a stronger relationship based on mutual understanding and collaboration. The visit holds the promise of opening new avenues for cooperation and partnership between the two countries, providing a foundation for enhanced dialogue and engagement in the future.
