A new proposal by MP Hassan Ebrahim aims to address the ongoing uncertainty surrounding government expropriations by introducing a two-year deadline for the process, with compensation for any delays beyond this limit. The lack of clear timelines has resulted in frustration for property owners, as decisions from the Ministry of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture have been stalled for years. Ebrahim’s plan is designed to alleviate the financial burden on property owners and prevent properties from deteriorating due to government inefficiency.

According to the proposal, the government would be required to complete expropriation within two years. If authorities fail to meet this deadline, they would be mandated to compensate landowners. Ebrahim emphasized the importance of protecting citizens from unnecessary hardship, referencing constitutional principles that promote justice, equality, and opportunity. The aim is to ensure that families do not have to watch their assets crumble due to government inaction.

Complaints from landowners have been growing, with many facing significant financial strain from evicting tenants in properties marked for expropriation or dealing with rising repair costs to maintain property conditions. Without clear deadlines, expropriation cases have been left unresolved for years, leading to deteriorating properties and devalued real estate. Property owners are often left with no choice but to invest in repairs to maintain their properties’ value or let buildings fall into disrepair, turning their investments into liabilities.

Ebrahim pointed out the cruelty of this situation and stressed the need for the government to take responsibility and end the cycle of neglect. The proposal will be further debated in upcoming parliamentary sessions, with MPs discussing its potential impact on property owners and the government’s approach to expropriation. The goal is to bring clarity and accountability to the expropriation process, ensuring that property owners are not left in financial distress or with deteriorating assets due to government inefficiency.

Overall, MP Hassan Ebrahim’s proposal to introduce a two-year deadline for government expropriations and compensate landowners for delays beyond this limit addresses the ongoing uncertainty and frustration surrounding the process. By emphasizing the need for clear timelines and accountability, the proposal aims to protect property owners from financial strain and prevent properties from deteriorating due to government inaction. As discussions on the proposal continue in parliament, the focus remains on promoting justice, equality, and opportunity for citizens affected by expropriation.
