Emirati astronauts Nora AlMatrooshi and Mohammad AlMulla from the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre (MBRSC) brought joy to twenty-five children battling cancer at Mediclinic Hospital Dubai by providing them with a variety of gifts. The children, who are currently undergoing cancer treatment and unable to leave the hospital, were eager to learn about space exploration. In an effort to boost their spirits, Friends of Cancer Patients (FOCP) organized this visit to bring outer space to them, providing emotional support during their treatment.

During the visit, the children had the opportunity to interact with the astronauts and learn about their experiences in space. Nora Al Matrooshi shared stories of her journey to outer space, describing rocket launches and space missions. The children were fascinated to learn about the International Space Station and how astronauts stay there for extended periods. They also inquired about communication methods with ground stations and robot control. Mohammad Al Mulla shared his own astronaut journey, from selection to training at NASA, and answered questions about spacesuits and protective gear.

The astronauts engaged with the children, discussing their hopes and dreams for the future. Some children expressed a desire to float in space, while others dreamt of living on the moon or picking stars to hide under their pillows. The visit allowed the children to imagine the possibilities of space exploration and inspired them to pursue their aspirations. The event was attended by Aisha Al Mulla, Director of FOCP, Johan Snygg, Medical Director of Mediclinic Hospital Dubai, and dedicated physicians overseeing the children’s treatment programs.

The interaction between the Emirati astronauts and the children battling cancer brought a sense of wonder and joy to the young patients. Through this special visit, the children were able to escape the confines of the hospital and immerse themselves in the world of space exploration. The astronauts’ stories and experiences inspired the children to dream big and reach for the stars, providing them with hope and motivation during their challenging battle against cancer.

This heartwarming initiative by Friends of Cancer Patients highlights the importance of emotional support and positivity in the healing process for children undergoing cancer treatment. By bringing outer space to the hospital room, the astronauts created a memorable experience for the children, giving them a moment of joy and inspiration to overcome their difficulties. The visit not only brought smiles to the faces of the young patients but also strengthened their resilience and determination to fight the disease with courage and hope.
