Eifrit shines with impressive finish to win Umm Al Zubar Cup

The Umm Al Zubar Cup took place at Al Rayyan Racecourse, with owner Sheikh Ahmad bin Mohamed F N Al Thani’s horse, Eifrit, emerging as the winner. The six-year-old bay won the 1900m Purebred Arabian Open Allowance Race (Class 2) with jockey Marco Casamento in the saddle. This victory marked a swift double for trainer Jassim Ghazali. Eifrit’s blistering speed in the closing stages secured a two-and-a-quarter-length victory, retaining the cup for Sheikh Ahmad.

Ambassador of the State of Qatar to Bosnia and Herzegovina H E Meshaal bin Ali Al Attiyah presented the trophies to the winners of the Umm Al Zubar Cup. In other races held at the event, Ghazali-trained Mystical Music won the Thoroughbred Handicap 80-100 (Class 2) with Mohammed Hassan Ali Alabdulmalik as the jockey. Ahmed Al Jehani also celebrated back-to-back wins with Alberto Sanna riding Sky Blue to victory in the Local Thoroughbred Handicap 55-75 (Class 3) and One Nation winning the Thoroughbred Handicap 65-85 (Class 4).

Arnaud De Lepine also achieved success in the races, steering Lavinia De Carrere to victory in the Purebred Arabian Maiden Plate (Class 6). Other winners included Surooh in the Local Thoroughbred Maiden Plate – Class 6, Mallhog in the Local Thoroughbred Handicap 0-50 – Class 5, and He’s A Dream in the Thoroughbred Handicap 50-70 – Class 5. The excitement continues with the upcoming H H Sheikh Abdullah Bin Khalifa Al Thani Trophy Day at Al Uqda Racecourse, featuring nine thrilling races including marquee events such as the H H Sheikh Abdullah Bin Khalifa Al Thani Trophy – Local Purebred Arabian (Class 1) and the H H Sheikh Abdullah Bin Khalifa Al Thani Cup – Purebred Arabian (Class 1 Gr2) International Race.

Overall, the Umm Al Zubar Cup saw an impressive display of skill and speed from the winning horses and their jockeys, with Eifrit leading the charge with its dominant performance. The race was attended by notable figures, including Ambassador of the State of Qatar to Bosnia and Herzegovina H E Meshaal bin Ali Al Attiyah, who presented the trophies to the deserving winners. The event showcased the talent and dedication of the participants and highlighted the importance of horse racing in Qatar’s sporting landscape.
