The Jebel Ali Beach Development Project in Dubai has recently received approval from Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai. The project is set to become the longest open public beach in Dubai, spanning 6.6 kilometres and covering a total area of 330 hectares. Upon completion, the development will feature a two-kilometre open beach for swimming, a 2.5km diving sports area, a walkway with viewing platforms, and recreational and service areas for people of all ages. In addition, the beach will be connected with integrated infrastructure, including a two-lane road in each direction, ample parking, bicycle racks, cycling tracks, and running tracks.

The Jebel Ali Beach Development Project is part of a broader master plan to enhance public beaches in Dubai and increase the total length of beaches by 400%. The vision includes adding new public beaches, improving existing ones, and providing new recreational, sports, aesthetic, and investment facilities in alignment with the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan. Sheikh Hamdan emphasized the government’s commitment to implementing the necessary infrastructure and services to offer various urban options for citizens, residents, and visitors, including beaches, open spaces, and recreational green areas to enhance the overall quality of life in the city.

The plan for the Jebel Ali Beach Development Project includes the development of a 5 km sandy beach by Nakheel and a 1.6 km mangrove beach by Dubai Municipality. The mangrove beach features a unique ecosystem that enhances the sanctuary and provides habitats for various living organisms. Three distinct locations will be created within the beach area: the Pearl, the Sanctuary, and the Nest, each offering different recreational and environmental experiences. Furthermore, a floating bridge will be constructed to link the two sides of Al Mamzar Beach, marking a significant addition to Dubai’s urban landscape.

Dubai has prioritized the development of its public beaches, with plans to expand the coastline by 400% to allow residents and tourists to explore 105km of public beaches, up from the current 21km. The city currently boasts eight public beaches, including popular destinations like Khor Al Mamzar, Al Mamzar Corniche, Jumeirah 1, Jumeirah 2, Jumeirah 3, Umm Suqeim 1, Umm Suqeim 2, and Jebel Ali. The renovation and expansion of these beaches aim to provide individuals with more recreational options and foster a healthier and more vibrant community environment for residents and visitors alike.
