Dr. Essam Al Alawi has made the decision not to run in the upcoming parliamentary by-election for the vacant Muharraq’s 1st constituency seat. The deadline for submitting applications closed without him submitting his nomination, ending speculation about his candidacy. The Director of Workforce Development at the Ministry of Health cited “unforeseen circumstances” and the importance of his current position as reasons for his decision. He also emphasized his commitment to ongoing projects related to national human development and highlighted that his previous electoral program was not feasible to implement within the remaining two years of the current council’s term.

Dr. Al Alawi urged voters to choose the most competent candidate, prioritizing wisdom, humility in dealing with others, and the ability to meet the needs of citizens. Despite withdrawing, he was considered a strong contender, having secured second place in the previous election among 13 candidates. In the second round, he garnered 3,423 votes and had expressed confidence in his chances of winning, predicting victory in the first round. His withdrawal has now left the race open for other candidates vying for the vacant seat.
