The Minister of Transport and Telecommunications in Bahrain, Mohamed bin Thamer Al Kaabi, recently addressed concerns regarding the increase in airport departure fees at Bahrain International Airport. He reassured the public that even with the recent hike, the fees at Bahrain International Airport remain among the lowest in the region and internationally. This assurance came in response to a parliamentary question by Dr. Ali Al Nuaimi, where Mr. Al Kaabi explained that the Ministry conducted a thorough comparative study between Bahrain International Airport and various other airports to determine the competitiveness of their fees and services.

The study concluded that Bahrain’s airport fees are highly competitive, offering excellent services and facilities to departing and transit passengers. Prior to implementing the fee increase, the Ministry engaged in extensive consultations with Bahrain Airport Company to discuss the potential impact on air travel. Additionally, the Minister stated that the Ministry followed the recommendations and requirements of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), which mandate consultation with the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and airlines at least four months before implementing new fees. This demonstrates the government’s commitment to transparency and cooperation with stakeholders in the aviation industry.

Furthermore, the Minister emphasized that the fee increase aligns with the agreement between the government and the Council of Representatives and the Shura Council during the approval of the state budget. This decision was made in accordance with established protocols and regulations, ensuring that any adjustments to airport fees are conducted in a transparent and accountable manner. By adhering to international standards and consulting with relevant stakeholders, the Ministry aims to maintain a balance between providing quality services to passengers and ensuring the sustainability of Bahrain International Airport.

Overall, the reassurance provided by the Minister of Transport and Telecommunications underscores the government’s commitment to upholding the competitiveness and quality of services at Bahrain International Airport. Despite the fee increase, Bahrain remains a cost-effective option for travelers compared to other airports in the region and globally. The Ministry’s proactive approach to consultation and compliance with international regulations reflects its dedication to transparency and collaboration within the aviation industry. As Bahrain continues to enhance its infrastructure and services, passengers can expect a seamless travel experience that meets international standards while supporting the growth and development of the aviation sector in the region.
