Minister of Culture Prince Badr bin Abdullah recently visited Al-Ahsa Governorate in the Eastern Province to inspect various archaeological and historical sites. During his tour, he reviewed the strategic cultural projects implemented by the cultural authorities in the region and assessed the progress made in their execution. Al-Ahsa Governorate, known for its rich history dating back thousands of years, is home to a number of archaeological sites, including the UNESCO World Heritage-listed “Al-Ahsa Oasis”. This oasis, with over three million palm trees producing more than 100,000 tons of dates annually, has earned a place in the Guinness Book of Records as the largest independent oasis in the world.

In addition to its historical significance, Al-Ahsa is renowned for its inclusion in the UNESCO World Heritage List as a major settlement over the past five centuries. The region boasts palm groves, water channels, springs, wells, and a variety of archaeological sites, contributing to its unique cultural heritage. Moreover, Al-Ahsa is a member of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network, particularly recognized for its expertise in handicrafts and folk arts. Landmarks such as the Qaisariya Heritage Market, the Amiriya School, the historic Jawatha Mosque, Ibrahim Palace, and the Bay’ah House further showcase the cultural richness of the governorate.

The visit by the Minister of Culture to Al-Ahsa Governorate underscores the ministry’s commitment to distributing cultural resources across all regions of the Kingdom and supporting Saudi creators in their cultural endeavors. By documenting and preserving cultural heritage, promoting cultural activities, and advancing the national cultural strategy, the ministry aims to develop the Saudi cultural sector in alignment with the goals of Vision 2030. Through initiatives like cultural projects and engagements with cultural bodies in various governorates, the Ministry of Culture seeks to empower individuals to express their creativity and contribute to the preservation of Saudi Arabia’s cultural legacy.

The cultural projects and initiatives in Al-Ahsa Governorate are part of a larger effort to enhance the cultural landscape of Saudi Arabia and provide opportunities for artists and artisans to showcase their talents. By fostering a supportive environment for cultural expression and creativity, the Ministry of Culture aims to ensure that the cultural heritage of the Kingdom is preserved and celebrated. With a focus on cultural development and the promotion of regional cultural identities, the ministry’s endeavors in Al-Ahsa and beyond contribute to the overall enrichment of the Saudi cultural sector and the fulfillment of Vision 2030 objectives.

As the Minister of Culture continues to oversee cultural projects and initiatives in Al-Ahsa Governorate and other regions of the Kingdom, the impact of these efforts on the cultural sector will be closely monitored. By promoting cultural diversity, supporting local creators, and preserving cultural heritage, the ministry aims to cultivate a vibrant cultural ecosystem that reflects the rich history and traditions of Saudi Arabia. Through strategic collaborations and investments in cultural initiatives, the Ministry of Culture is paving the way for a dynamic and inclusive cultural landscape that celebrates the Kingdom’s cultural heritage and fosters creativity and innovation.
