The Permanent Population Committee (PPC) in Qatar recently celebrated Qatar Population Day in partnership with the Ehsan Center. The event, held under the theme “Elderly in the State of Qatar: A Better Future through Sustainable Care”, coincided with the United Nations’ World Population Day. Minister of Social Development and Family H E Maryam bint Ali bin Nasser Al Misnad emphasized the importance of honoring the elderly, who have contributed significantly to society. She highlighted the role of the elderly as pillars of wisdom and experience, and stressed the need to provide them with a decent life, in line with the goals of Qatar National Vision 2030.

PPC Chairman H E Abdul Aziz bin Nasser bin Mubarak Al Khalifa underlined the significance of focusing on the elderly population in Qatar, given the increasing needs of this segment of society. He emphasized the importance of developing care systems, including health and social care, to address the challenges faced by elderly individuals. The event also featured H E Jocelyn Fenard from the United Nations Population Fund, who highlighted the importance of cooperation between organizations to support the well-being of the elderly and integrate them into society as active citizens.

The celebration of Qatar Population Day included the honoring of distinguished guests and the launch of a symposium on care for the elderly in the country. The event aimed to raise awareness about the needs of the elderly population and the importance of providing sustainable care to ensure their well-being. Minister Maryam bint Ali bin Nasser Al Misnad emphasized the religious and national values that underpin the respect and care for the elderly in Qatar, emphasizing the need to empower this segment of society and ensure a dignified life for them.

The event also highlighted the challenges facing the elderly population in Qatar, including the need for improved healthcare and social services. H E Abdul Aziz bin Nasser bin Mubarak Al Khalifa emphasized the need for comprehensive care systems that can address the unique needs of elderly individuals and support their active participation in society. H E Jocelyn Fenard emphasized the importance of developing policies and programs that prioritize the well-being of the elderly and promote their integration into society.

Overall, the celebration of Qatar Population Day served as an opportunity to recognize the contributions of the elderly population in Qatar and highlight the importance of providing sustainable care for this segment of society. The event underscored the need for continued cooperation between government agencies, non-profit organizations, and international partners to support the well-being of the elderly and ensure their active participation in society. By investing in the potential of the elderly and implementing well-organized programs, Qatar can ensure a better future for its elderly population and promote their overall well-being and integration into society.
