The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has resumed the Remaining Roads and Infrastructure Works in Al Mearad and Muaither Southwest project (Package 3), a major infrastructure development aimed at enhancing the area’s road network and services. The project is part of Ashghal’s ongoing efforts to support Qatar’s urban development plans and improve residents’ quality of life.

According to Eng. Abdulla Shams, Project Engineer in the Drainage Networks Projects Department at Ashghal, the project will serve 439 land plots in Al Mearad and Muaither Southwest, providing essential infrastructure such as roads, street lighting, stormwater and drainage networks, and treated sewage effluent (TSE) networks. The project is a response to the growing population and urban expansion in the area, the report indicates.

Road Network and Infrastructure Development

The project includes the development of 16 km of roads and 2 km of pedestrian and cycling paths, in addition to the installation of 526 lighting poles and the provision of 2,747 parking spaces. Furthermore, 613 trees will be planted, and landscaping works will be carried out to enhance the area’s aesthetic appearance. The infrastructure improvements will also include the development of 36 km of stormwater drainage networks, 22 km of sewage networks, and 6 km of treated water networks.

However, the project’s scope extends beyond just road development. It also aims to create a fully integrated infrastructure network, enhancing services in the area. The development of stormwater drainage and sewage pipelines is currently underway, alongside road construction, laying the foundation for improved traffic flow and reduced congestion.

Infrastructure Enhancements and Quality of Life

The project’s infrastructure enhancements will have a significant impact on the quality of life for residents in Al Mearad and Muaither Southwest. The provision of treated sewage effluent (TSE) networks and stormwater drainage systems will reduce the risk of flooding and improve overall public health. Additionally, the development of pedestrian and cycling paths will promote sustainable transportation and enhance the area’s livability.

Meanwhile, the project’s focus on landscaping and aesthetic improvements will enhance the area’s visual appeal. The planting of 613 trees and the creation of green spaces will not only beautify the area but also contribute to a more sustainable environment.

Project Timeline and Expectations

While the exact completion date for the Remaining Roads and Infrastructure Works in Al Mearad and Muaither Southwest project (Package 3) is not specified, the project’s progress is expected to be closely monitored by Ashghal and local stakeholders. As the project nears completion, residents can expect improved traffic flow, enhanced public services, and a better overall quality of life.

Ashghal’s efforts to develop road networks and infrastructure across Qatar are ongoing, with multiple projects aimed at supporting the country’s urban development plans. The success of the Remaining Roads and Infrastructure Works in Al Mearad and Muaither Southwest project (Package 3) will likely be watched closely, as it sets a precedent for future infrastructure developments in the region.
