The Amiri Decision No. (70) of 2024 issued by His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani has formed the Board of Directors of the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy in Doha, Qatar. The Board will be chaired by the Prime Minister, with the President of the Qatar Olympic Committee serving as Vice-Chairman. Other members include key government officials such as the Minister of Interior, Minister of Finance, Minister of Culture, and Minister of Sports and Youth. Hassan bin Abdullah Al Thawadi, Chairman of Qatar Tourism, Engineer Yasser Abdullah Al Jamal, and the Executive Director of the Permanent Committee for Organizing Conferences are also part of the Board. Additionally, three members with experience in the Committee’s competencies will be chosen by the Chairman to join the Board.

The Chairman of the Board has the authority to include representatives of other parties who are concerned with the Committee’s work. The decision has come into effect immediately upon issue and will be published in the official gazette.

This move marks a significant step towards the effective governance and management of the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy, which oversees the planning and execution of major events in Qatar, including the upcoming FIFA World Cup in 2022. By forming a diverse and experienced Board of Directors, the Committee aims to ensure that all aspects of event delivery and legacy planning are managed effectively and efficiently. With representation from key government officials, sports and tourism professionals, and individuals with expertise in relevant fields, the Board is well-equipped to steer the Committee towards success.

The involvement of the Prime Minister as the Chairman of the Board highlights the government’s commitment to the success of major events in Qatar and the importance of effective leadership in this regard. The inclusion of representatives from various sectors such as sports, tourism, and culture demonstrates a holistic approach to event planning and legacy building. By bringing together individuals with diverse skills and experiences, the Board can leverage their expertise to address challenges and capitalize on opportunities in the lead-up to the FIFA World Cup and beyond.

The decision-making process within the Board of Directors will be crucial in ensuring effective coordination and implementation of plans for the upcoming events. By having representatives from different sectors and backgrounds, the Board can consider a wide range of perspectives and make informed decisions that benefit all stakeholders involved. This collaborative approach to governance will help to streamline processes, enhance communication, and drive progress towards achieving the Committee’s goals in a timely manner.

The publication of the decision in the official gazette signals transparency and accountability in the Committee’s operations, ensuring that the public is informed about the formation of the Board of Directors and its responsibilities. This move demonstrates a commitment to openness and adherence to established procedures, reinforcing trust and confidence in the Committee’s ability to deliver on its mandate. As the Committee continues its work towards hosting successful events and creating a lasting legacy for Qatar, the newly-formed Board of Directors will play a crucial role in guiding and overseeing these efforts, setting the stage for a successful future.
