Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) share a deep bond rooted in history and mutual respect, fostering a relationship that continues to flourish. Recently, the UAE Ambassador to Kuwait, Dr. Matar Al Neyadi, underscored the strengthening Kuwait-UAE relations during the celebration of the UAE’s 54th National Day, an event themed “United.” This year’s festivities highlight not only the UAE’s national pride but also the commitment to deepening ties with its close ally, Kuwait.

Strengthening Bonds: A Look at Kuwait-UAE Relations

Dr. Al Neyadi’s statements, released through a press statement carried by KUNA, the Kuwait News Agency, emphasize a noteworthy upward trend in bilateral collaboration. He pointed to a dynamic exchange of high-level visits and meetings as evidence of this momentum. Furthermore, a significant milestone was reached with the signing of 16 agreements and memoranda of understanding (MoUs) in 2025, spanning diverse sectors and demonstrating a comprehensive approach to partnership.

These agreements aren’t merely symbolic; they’re designed to facilitate tangible progress and expand cooperation in areas crucial for both nations’ development. This strategic approach is vital as both countries navigate a changing global landscape.

Booming Trade and Economic Partnerships

The economic ties between Kuwait and the UAE are particularly strong and continue to expand. Latest figures reveal substantial growth in non-oil trade between the two countries. In the first half of 2025, non-oil trade reached AED 27.1 billion (approximately US$7 billion), a remarkable 15% increase compared to the same period last year.

Trade Statistics and Significance

This impressive growth continued throughout the year, with non-oil trade reaching AED 38.8 billion (around US$10 billion) in the first nine months of 2025 – a further 7.6% increase. These numbers solidify Kuwait’s position as a significant trading partner for the UAE and reinforce the UAE’s role as Kuwait’s second-largest global trading partner, and its foremost partner within the Arab and Gulf regions. The UAE accounts for roughly 20% of Kuwait’s non-oil exports.

Notably, trade between Kuwait and the UAE constituted nearly two-thirds of Kuwait’s total trade with other GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council) states in 2024, with projections indicating continued growth in 2025. This concentration highlights the clear preference for, and strategic importance of, collaboration within the region. This robust economic collaboration is a key pillar of the broader Kuwait-UAE relations.

A Week Dedicated to Brotherhood

Adding a particularly touching dimension to the celebration of ties, UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan initiated a week-long celebration of Emirati-Kuwaiti brotherhood, beginning on January 29th. Ambassador Al Neyadi described this initiative as a potent illustration of the deep fraternal relationship and the high esteem in which Kuwait is held by both the UAE leadership and its people.

This gesture demonstrates a commitment to prioritizing the human element in the relationship, recognizing the shared history and cultural understanding that binds the two nations. This kind of diplomatic initiative further strengthens the foundation of long-term partnership.

The “United” Theme and UAE’s National Vision

This year’s UAE National Day theme, “United,” perfectly encapsulates the core values that have guided the nation since its founding. These values include a strong sense of national unity, cohesion between the leadership and the population, and a belief in the power of a unified Emirati identity to drive progress and secure a leading position on the world stage.

The theme references the legacy of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, whose leadership instilled principles of solidarity, determination, and collective effort within the Emirati people. It’s a reminder that the UAE’s successes are built on a foundation of shared purpose and national belonging.

Beyond Borders: Regional and International Impact

The UAE’s vision extends beyond its own borders. Dr. Al Neyadi emphasized the UAE’s dedication to promoting regional and international peace and stability, actively fostering partnerships through dialogue, and spearheading humanitarian efforts. The country has made significant strides in diverse sectors, including economic development, resource diversification, future technologies, artificial intelligence, space exploration, renewable energy, military industries, and food security.

These advancements not only benefit the UAE but also contribute to the broader progress and security of the Gulf region and beyond. This commitment to global well-being further underscores the strength and responsibility inherent in their expanding bilateral ties with Kuwait. Moreover, the UAE actively pursues economic diversification which is mirrored in Kuwait’s own long-term economic plans, creating further opportunities for synergistic growth.

Looking Ahead: A Continued Trajectory of Growth

The remarks by Ambassador Al Neyadi paint a clear picture of robust and evolving Kuwait-UAE relations. Built on a bedrock of historical ties, genuine brotherhood, and a shared vision for progress, the partnership between these two nations is poised for continued growth and success in the years to come. This flourishing relationship serves as a model for regional cooperation and demonstrates the tangible benefits of prioritizing mutual respect, trust, and shared goals.
