Major Impact of “Loah and Qalam: The Museum of Maqbool Fida Husain”

The “Loah and Qalam: The Museum of Maqbool Fida Husain,” operated by Qatar Foundation for Education, Science, and Community Development, has made a significant impression at the TIME 100 Art event organized by TIME magazine. The event aims to celebrate influential figures in the global art scene, showcasing the museum’s essential role in the art community.

As a key partner in this distinguished event, the museum highlighted the vital contributions of prominent personalities shaping the art landscape worldwide. The event featured an introductory video detailing the museum’s journey, alongside an interactive space that allowed visitors to explore the establishment and its story through photography stations and live Arabic calligraphy activities.

Celebrating Cultural Heritage Through Art

Qatar Foundation has effectively introduced a global audience to the museum and the legacy of renowned Indian artist Maqbool Fida Husain. The institution aims to promote cultural dialogue and the appreciation of art from the region and beyond. Jahwar Al Marri, the Director of Communications at Qatar Foundation, emphasized that Husain’s diverse and long career included exhibitions in major cities worldwide, including New York, where his works were first showcased in 1964.

Al Marri expressed pride in reviving Husain’s legacy through the TIME 100 Art event, stating, “This event provides an ideal opportunity to further spotlight ‘Loah and Qalam: The Museum of Maqbool Fida Husain’ to the global art community.” She added that the event would introduce new audiences to the museum and its collections, particularly as it approaches its first anniversary since opening in November 2025.

Engagement with Over 12,000 Visitors

Since its opening, the museum has welcomed over 12,000 visitors, making it a vibrant cultural hub. Al Marri noted that the event served as a moment of reflection on the journey the museum has undergone and reiterated the importance of engaging a diverse assembly of artistic viewpoints from around the globe.

Furthermore, the participation at the TIME 100 Art event reflects the ongoing dialogues about art, culture, and the roles of museums in fostering understanding and appreciation of artistic endeavors. This signifies a remarkable moment for the museum in tapping into a broader artistic community and showcasing its unique contributions.

Upcoming Developments and Future Prospects

The “Loah and Qalam: The Museum of Maqbool Fida Husain” is located in Qatar’s Education City, occupying over 3,000 square meters dedicated to the display of Husain’s last works, including his final masterpiece, “Sيرو في الأرض.” Visitors will also have the chance to delve into the significant chapters of the artist’s life and legacy through personal artifacts and a diverse collection of his artworks.

As the museum approaches its anniversary, it looks forward to continuing its mission of enriching cultural dialogue and increasing accessibility to Maqbool Fida Husain’s transformative body of work. Future events and exhibitions are expected to further engage audiences, ensuring the ongoing relevance of Husain’s artistic vision and cultural significance.
