Omani Values Highlighted During International Day of Older Persons
The Irshad Association branch in the Dakhiliyah Governorate, in collaboration with the Al Hamra Wilayat Office, organized an event titled “Omani Traits: Values We Cherish Under the Motto Unbreakable Bonds.” This event celebrated the International Day of Older Persons and was attended by Sheikh Suleiman bin Said Al Azri, the Governor of Al Hamra, at the multipurpose hall of the Al Hamra Wilayat Office.
Students from Al Hamra Basic School (Grades 1-4) presented a welcoming mural showcasing the art of “Khiedah.” During the ceremony, Hamad bin Salem Al Kindi, the head of the Irshad Association branch, delivered a speech emphasizing the vital role of older persons in community building. He discussed the importance of volunteers and supportive organizations in ensuring the comfort and peace of mind of the elderly.
Promoting Respect and Care for the Elderly
Al Kindi highlighted how children can serve and respect older individuals, acknowledging their contributions to Omani values and customs. This theme resonated throughout the event, uplifting the significance of maintaining traditions and honoring the wisdom of past generations. The ceremony featured a visual presentation of the Irshad Association’s activities in the Dakhiliyah Governorate, illustrating ongoing efforts to engage and support the elderly population.
A dialogue session entitled “Values That Never Age,” moderated by Moussa bin Ali Al Abri, engaged participants including Salem bin Ali Al Khiyari, Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Abri, and Khalaf bin Hamad Al Abri. They discussed the contrast between generational values, detailing the cooperation present in traditional societies compared to contemporary lifestyles.
Interactive Sessions and Cultural Reflections
The event also included an awareness video titled “Heritage Unites Us,” reflecting on the memories of ancestors while showcasing the Irshad Association’s commitment to nurturing the elderly through health initiatives and knowledge sharing. Participants engaged in an interactive session led by Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Abri, focusing on Omani proverbs and their meanings.
A theatrical presentation entitled “Holding onto Omani Traits” depicted vital scenes demonstrating the importance of preserving Omani heritage. Another video, “Memory Box,” showcased significant Omani customs and traditions, reinforcing the celebration of heritage during the event.

In concluding the event, the governor recognized and honored contributors to the initiative’s success. This acknowledgment underscores the collective commitment to supporting the elderly and the importance of community involvement in preserving cultural values.
