Amidst the chaos and destruction of war in Gaza, QRCS doctors are working tirelessly to save lives and provide much-needed medical care to those in need. One such hero is Dr. Raed Al Arini, a Thoracic Surgery Consultant hired by QRCS, who recently performed a life-saving surgery on a 13-year-old Palestinian child named Moaz. Moaz had been hit by shrapnel during a bombing in his district in Central Gaza Governorate and was rushed to Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital for emergency treatment.
Upon arrival at the hospital, Moaz was in critical condition, with a direct shrapnel wound in his chest causing severe bleeding. Dr. Al-Arini and his medical team immediately went into action, performing an emergency surgery to stop the bleeding and repair the damage. Despite being scared and shocked, Moaz underwent successful surgery and is currently recovering in the thoracic surgery ICU department. His family has been informed that he will recover soon, but will need to stay hospitalized for a few days for postoperative care.

The situation in Gaza is dire, with many health services disrupted or halted due to the bombing of hospitals and health workers. QRCS’s thoracic surgery consultant has been on the front lines, performing over 2,000 surgeries since the eruption of war in October 2023. Dr. Al Arini and other QRCS doctors are facing significant challenges, with critical injuries requiring urgent interventions and a shortage of medical supplies and equipment. Despite the risks, these dedicated doctors continue to provide essential medical care to those in need.

Head of QRCS’s representation office in Gaza, Dr. Akram Nassar, emphasized the importance of continued health care services in Gaza, even amidst the ongoing conflict. QRCS is working closely with the Palestinian Ministry of Health to ensure that hospitals can remain operational and provide necessary care to patients. QRCS interventions are focused on sustaining health services, with a particular emphasis on thoracic surgery, emergency medicine, psychological support, and medical care for endocrine diseases and diabetes.

Despite the challenges and dangers they face, QRCS doctors have made nearly 19,000 medical interventions since the start of the war, including over 3,000 life-saving surgeries as part of the Surgical Operations for Patients in Gaza 2023-2024 project. The humanitarian efforts of QRCS are critical in preventing the collapse of Gaza’s health sector, especially as more health facilities are targeted and bombed. Dr. Nassar reiterated QRCS’s commitment to continuing their lifesaving work, even in the face of adversity.

In conclusion, the work of QRCS doctors like Dr. Raed Al Arini is truly heroic, as they risk their lives on a daily basis to save the lives of those affected by war and conflict in Gaza. Despite the challenges they face, these dedicated medical professionals continue to provide essential medical care to patients in need, ensuring that critical surgeries and interventions are carried out to save lives. The support and coordination between QRCS, the Palestinian Ministry of Health, and other partners are crucial in maintaining health services in Gaza and preventing the complete collapse of the health sector. The bravery and commitment of QRCS doctors serve as a beacon of hope in the midst of turmoil and violence, highlighting the importance of humanitarian efforts in providing essential medical care to those most vulnerable in times of crisis.
