Summer in the UAE can be scorching, especially for construction and industrial workers who are exposed to the blazing heat during the hottest hours of the day. To provide some relief for these workers, the UAE implements a midday break each year. However, with temperatures on the rise, any form of respite from the heat is greatly beneficial for these individuals. In line with this, the ‘Al Freej Fridge’ campaign has been launched with the aim of distributing cold water, juices, and ice cream to mitigate the effects of summer heat on workers and promote values of compassion and giving in the Dubai community.

The campaign, which will run until August 23, targets one million cleaners, construction workers, delivery riders, and agricultural workers who are out on the streets and roads during the summer. Supported by the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives Foundation, Furjan Dubai, in collaboration with the UAE Water Aid Foundation and the UAE Food Bank, the initiative seeks to provide relief to those who work in outdoor areas under the scorching sun.

To ensure the protection of workers, Furjan Dubai uses refrigerated vehicles to tour various areas of Dubai where workers and delivery drivers operate, distributing water, cold drinks, and ice cream. The campaign aims to increase community participation in mitigating health risks associated with high temperatures, such as dehydration and heat stress. By doing so, it not only maintains the health of workers but also enhances community solidarity and social responsibility.

Dr Abdul Karim Sultan Al Olama, CEO of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives Foundation, emphasized the significance of the ‘Al Freej Fridge’ campaign in encouraging support for noble initiatives that aim to support workers throughout the year, especially during the summer. He praised the efforts of Furjan Dubai in contributing positively to Dubai society and supporting all its categories, emphasizing the deep-rooted values of giving, compassion, and empathy among the people of the Emirates.

Alia Al Shamlan, Director of Furjan Dubai, highlighted the humanitarian messages inherent in the campaign, which reflect the compassion, solidarity, and generosity of the Emirati society. The distribution of water, cold juices, and ice cream to workers during the summer showcases the high sense of responsibility held by the partners and volunteers involved in the campaign. The aim is to reach one million workers in their workplaces and leave a positive impact on this segment, which plays a crucial role in the prosperity and well-being of Dubai.
