Wathnan Racing’s Wafei wins Al Rakayat Cup with impressive victory at Al Uqda

Wafei, a four-year-old gelding, made an impressive debut in Qatar by winning the Al Rakayat Cup at Al Uqda Racecourse with a three-length victory in the 2200m Thoroughbred Handicap feature. This win was part of a brilliant treble for Wathnan Racing, trainer Alban de Mieulle, and jockey Soufiane Saadi. The Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club’s Racing Manager Abdulla Rashid Al Kubaisi presented trophies to the winners, including the connections of Wafei who celebrated their victory.

Earlier in the day, Kafalat and Skipper also secured wins for the trio in the Purebred Arabian Maiden Plate and Thoroughbred Novice Plate, respectively. Trainer Hamad Al Jehani and jockey Saleh Faraj Al Otaibi also celebrated two victories with Charlie Bu Thaila and Al Hemroor winning races in the Local Thoroughbred Handicap 0-50 and Purebred Arabian Maiden Plate categories.

In other races at the Al Uqda Race Meeting, Lukas Delozier guided Mohammed Ghazali-trained Pure Motion to victory in the Thoroughbred Handicap 45-65 (Class 6), while Jassim Ghazali-trained Townsend Manor won the Thoroughbred Handicap 70-90 with jockey Fayos Martin Borja in the saddle. This successful day at the races showcased the talent and skill of the trainers and jockeys involved, with exciting finishes and competitive races throughout the day.

The impressive performance of Wafei in his Qatar debut has captured the attention of racing enthusiasts and fans, solidifying his reputation as a rising star in the Thoroughbred racing world.
