The United Arab Emirates (UAE) passport authority has recently announced an extension to the validity period of Emirati passports to 10 years. This new service, available to citizens aged 21 and above starting July 8, 2024, marks a significant change from the previous standard five-year validity period. The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Ports Security (ICP) introduced this new initiative to streamline bureaucracy and save time for citizens by minimizing their trips to passport facilities.

Major General Suhail Juma Al Khaili, the Director General of Identity and Passports at the Authority, clarified that the 10-year validity is specifically for citizens aged 21 and above, while those under 21 will continue to receive five-year passports. The new 10-year Emirati passports will be issued through the same established procedures and delivery channels as the current passports. Citizens can apply for the new service when their existing passports expire, ensuring a smooth transition to the extended validity period.

The introduction of the 10-year validity period for Emirati passports aligns with the UAE government’s mission to enhance the travel experience and overall quality of life for its citizens. By reducing the customer journey from two trips to one trip every 10 years, this new service exemplifies the government’s commitment to efficiency and convenience for its people. With this development, citizens can expect a more streamlined and hassle-free passport renewal process, making travel and administrative tasks easier and more convenient.

It is important for individuals to stay updated with the latest news and developments regarding this extension in passport validity. Following news outlets like Khaleej Times on WhatsApp Channels can provide citizens with timely updates and information on how to navigate the transition to the new 10-year Emirati passports. Being informed about the process and requirements for obtaining the extended validity passports will help citizens make a smooth and seamless transition when it comes time to renew their travel documents.

The extension of the validity period of Emirati passports to 10 years is a significant milestone for the country and its citizens. This change reflects the UAE government’s proactive approach to improving administrative processes and enhancing the overall well-being of its people. By providing a longer validity period for passports, the government aims to simplify and streamline the passport renewal process, ultimately saving time and effort for citizens. This landmark announcement underscores the UAE’s ongoing commitment to innovation and efficiency in public services.

In conclusion, the extension of the validity period of Emirati passports to 10 years is a positive development that will benefit citizens in the UAE. By reducing the frequency of passport renewals and simplifying the process, the government aims to improve the travel experience and overall quality of life for its people. Citizens aged 21 and above can look forward to a more streamlined and convenient passport renewal process, with the option of obtaining a 10-year validity passport once their current one expires. This initiative showcases the UAE government’s dedication to enhancing services and creating a more efficient and user-friendly environment for its citizens.
