Shooting in Wadi Kabir results in 9 deaths and 28 injuries

In a tragic incident in Muscat, Oman, six people, including a police officer, were killed when attackers opened fire at a mosque in Wadi Kabir. The Oman News Agency reported that three attackers were also killed in the incident. Four Pakistani nationals were among the deceased, identified as Ghulam Abbas, Hasan Abbas, Sayyed Qaisar Abbas, and Sulaiman Nawaz. The Royal Oman Police, along with military and security services, have concluded the procedures for addressing the shooting incident.

The unfortunate incident resulted in the death of six individuals, including a police officer, and the killing of the three attackers, as well as injuries to 28 people of various nationalities. Among the injured were four individuals, including policemen and Civil Defence and Ambulance Authority personnel who were performing their duties. The injured have been transferred to health institutions for treatment, and investigations into the circumstances of the incident are currently ongoing.

The Oman News Agency expressed condolences and sympathies to the families of the deceased and wished the injured a speedy recovery. The agency also extended appreciation for the national efforts and cooperation of citizens and residents which helped in containing the situation. The Royal Oman Police stressed the importance of obtaining information from official sources and advised the public to ignore non-reliable sources.

Following the shooting incident, the US embassy in Muscat issued a security alert and cancelled all visa appointments scheduled for the following day. The embassy urged US citizens to remain vigilant, monitor local news, and follow the directions of local authorities. The tragic incident has sent shockwaves through the community and serves as a reminder of the importance of security and safety measures in public spaces.

The Pakistan Embassy in Oman confirmed that four of its nationals were among the deceased in the mosque attack and expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives. The incident has drawn condemnation from local and international communities, with calls for a thorough investigation and measures to prevent such attacks in the future.

The shooting incident at the mosque in Muscat has highlighted the need for heightened security measures and vigilance in public places. The tragic loss of lives and injuries serve as a reminder of the importance of community cooperation and timely response in emergencies. As investigations continue and the community mourns the loss of the victims, authorities are working to ensure the safety and security of all residents and visitors in Muscat.
