Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, recently reviewed the latest updates on the MBZ-SAT, the most advanced satellite in the region named after the UAE President. The MBZ-SAT, which is being developed by an Emirati team, is scheduled for launch no earlier than October 2024 on a SpaceX rocket. Once the environmental testing is successfully completed, the final launch preparations will begin. This achievement underscores the UAE’s commitment to becoming a major global player in the field of space science and technology.

During his meeting with the Mohammed bin Rashid Space Centre’s work team, Sheikh Mohammed also discussed the advancements in the UAE Astronaut Programme. The focus on space exploration and technological advancements reflects the UAE’s ambitious vision to enhance its standing among leading countries in space exploration. Emirati astronauts Nora Al Matrooshi and Mohammad Al Mulla, who completed a two-year training programme at NASA, briefed Sheikh Mohammed on the latest developments in the UAE Astronaut Programme. These advancements are aimed at improving human life and addressing various challenges.

The UAE’s progress in space science and technology has been driven by the talent and dedication of Emirati engineers and scientists. The country has set ambitious goals for the future of space exploration, with the aim of contributing to global leadership in this field. Hamad Obaid Al Mansoori, Chairman of the Board of Directors at MBRSC, and Amer Al Sayegh Al Ghaferi, Assistant Director General of the Aerospace Engineering Sector at MBRSC, expressed their commitment to achieving milestones that will further enhance the UAE’s position in the space industry.

Sheikh Mohammed’s visit to review the developments in the MBZ-SAT and the UAE Astronaut Programme was attended by other senior officials, including Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Mohammad bin Abdullah Al Gergawi, and Lieutenant General Dhahi Khalfan Tamim. The presence of these officials underscores the government’s support for the advancement of the country’s space exploration initiatives. The UAE’s investments in space science and technology are crucial for driving innovation, improving quality of life, and addressing global challenges.

Overall, the UAE’s achievements in space science and technology signify its commitment to becoming a major player in the global space industry. With advancements in satellite technology and the UAE Astronaut Programme, the country is solidifying its position as a leader in space exploration. The dedication and expertise of Emirati talent are key drivers behind these achievements, laying the foundation for future milestones in the field. Through continued investments in space research and development, the UAE is poised to make significant contributions to the global space community.
