The population of Qatar has been steadily increasing, reflecting the remarkable economic growth and infrastructural development the country has experienced in recent years. According to statistics from the National Planning Council (NPC), the total population has risen from 1,541,130 in October 2008 to 2,857,822 in June 2024, an 85.4 percent increase. The male population in June 2024 stood at 2,070,164, making up 72.4 percent of the total population. The slight decrease in population recorded in June can be attributed to the start of the summer vacation season, when many people travel abroad for holidays.

This data represents the population of all ages, both Qataris and non-Qataris, within the boundaries of the State of Qatar as of June 30, 2024. It does not include Qatari nationals or residents who were outside the state boundaries on that date. NPC statistics for April 2024 showed that 25–64-year-olds make up 73.2 percent of the population, while those over 65 years constitute only 1.4 percent. Those under 15 years make up 14.3 percent, with the 15-24 age group accounting for 11.1 percent. In April 2024, 2,496 babies were born and 221 deaths were registered.

Despite the rise in population, the country continues to attract a growing number of visitors for tourism, leisure, and business purposes. In April 2024, the total number of inbound visitors reached about 382,000, marking a monthly increase of 16.3 percent compared to March 2024 and an annual increase of 17.9 percent compared to April 2023. The majority of visitors came from Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries at 42 percent, followed by countries in Asia and Oceania other than Arab and GCC states at 22.9 percent, Europe at 19.2 percent, Arab countries other than GCC at 8 percent, and the Americas at 6.2 percent. Airports were the most popular point of entry for visitors, accounting for 55 percent of the total number.

The increase in population and visitor numbers reflects Qatar’s growing appeal as a destination for both residents and tourists. The country’s rapid development and expanding economy have contributed to its increasing population and tourism industry. With its world-class infrastructure, cultural attractions, and vibrant economy, Qatar has become a cornerstone of the Middle East region. The diversity in visitors from various regions highlights the country’s ability to attract and accommodate a wide range of tourists from across the globe.

The rise in population is a testament to Qatar’s growing reputation as a desirable place to live, work, and visit. The country’s strategic investments in infrastructure, education, healthcare, and tourism have positioned it as a hub for business and leisure in the Middle East. As the population continues to increase and the tourism industry flourishes, Qatar is set to further cement its status as a key player in the global economy. With a diverse and dynamic population, the country is well-equipped to handle the influx of residents and visitors while maintaining its reputation as a welcoming and prosperous nation.

In conclusion, Qatar’s population has seen significant growth in recent years, mirroring the country’s economic development and increasing attractiveness as a destination for residents and tourists. The rise in population and visitor numbers demonstrates Qatar’s ability to sustain and enhance its infrastructure, services, and economy to accommodate a growing population and expanding tourism sector. As Qatar continues to evolve and thrive, it remains a beacon of progress and innovation in the Middle East, attracting people from around the world to experience its unique culture, opportunities, and lifestyle.
