Doha Metro and Lusail Tram are adjusting their Doha Metro service hours on December 31, 2025, to accommodate New Year’s Eve celebrations. The changes, announced via social media, impact both the metro lines and the Lusail Tram network. Passengers planning to utilize public transportation on the evening of December 31st should review the updated schedules to avoid disruptions to their travel plans.

The primary adjustments involve extended operating times on select Doha Metro lines and temporary closures or service limitations on portions of the Lusail Tram. These modifications are intended to facilitate increased ridership associated with New Year’s festivities while maintaining operational efficiency. The Qatar Rail company, responsible for both systems, detailed the changes on its official X account.

Understanding the Doha Metro New Year’s Eve Schedule

The most significant change for Doha Metro users is the extended service on lines connecting to Lusail. According to the announcement, the last train departing from Lusail QNB station will be at 2:22 AM. For passengers needing to connect to the Gold and Green lines, the final connecting train is scheduled for 2:07 AM. This allows for continued access to key areas of Doha after midnight.

However, the Lusail Tram network will experience more substantial alterations. These changes are designed to allow for logistical preparations and potential crowd management related to New Year’s events in the Lusail area. The extended hours on the Doha Metro are intended to mitigate the impact of these tram disruptions.

Lusail Tram Service Updates

The Lusail Tram Pink Line will be completely closed from 2:00 PM onwards on December 31st. This closure will remain in effect for the duration of the service day. Similarly, the Turquoise Line will be unavailable from 11:59 AM until the end of service.

Meanwhile, the Orange Line will operate with limited functionality. Service on the Orange Line will be restricted to the section between Legtaifiya and Al Wessil stations. Passengers requiring travel beyond these stations will need to utilize alternative transportation options or the Doha Metro network. These changes are expected to impact commuters relying on the tram for access to various Lusail destinations.

These adjustments come as Qatar continues to invest in its public transportation infrastructure. The rail network, including the Doha Metro and Lusail Tram, has become a crucial component of the country’s transportation system, particularly in supporting large-scale events and tourism. The system has seen increasing ridership since its initial launch.

The decision to modify service hours on New Year’s Eve aligns with similar adjustments made during other major events, such as the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. During that period, Qatar Rail implemented extended hours and increased frequency to accommodate the influx of visitors. This proactive approach demonstrates a commitment to providing reliable public transport during peak demand.

The Qatar Rail company has not specified the rationale behind the specific closure times for the Lusail Tram lines. It is likely related to planned New Year’s Eve celebrations in Lusail City, including potential fireworks displays and public gatherings. The company encourages passengers to check their website or social media channels for the most up-to-date information.

Looking ahead, Qatar Rail will likely monitor ridership patterns and assess the effectiveness of these adjustments. Further service modifications may be considered for future events based on the data collected. The company has not yet announced any planned changes for January 1, 2026, and passengers should anticipate normal service schedules unless otherwise notified. Continued investment in the transportation system and careful planning for major events will be key to ensuring a smooth and efficient travel experience for residents and visitors alike.

Qatar Rail is the official source for schedule updates.
