Qatar joins in remembrance of genocide in Srebrenica

The State of Qatar participated in commemorating the Srebrenica genocide in Sarajevo, Bosnia, in 1995. The event was attended by Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Chairman of the Presidency Denis Becirovic and the Minister of State for International Cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Lolwah bint Rashid Al Khater. Qatar has been actively involved in efforts to remember the tragic events of Srebrenica, having voted in favor of the resolution to designate July 11 as an international day of reflection and commemoration of the genocide in the United Nations General Assembly.

The State of Qatar’s representation at the commemoration in Sarajevo highlights the country’s commitment to remembering and honoring the victims of the Srebrenica genocide. Qatar’s Minister of State for International Cooperation, Lolwah bint Rashid Al Khater, played a significant role in the event, underscoring Qatar’s support for Bosnia and Herzegovina. Qatar’s Ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Meshal bin Ali Al Attiyah, also attended the solemn commemoration, further demonstrating Qatar’s solidarity with the people of Bosnia.

The Srebrenica genocide, which occurred in 1995, remains a dark chapter in Bosnia and Herzegovina’s history. Thousands of Bosnian Muslims were brutally killed in the town of Srebrenica by Bosnian Serb forces, in what has been described as the worst atrocity in Europe since World War II. The international community has recognized the genocide, with the United Nations designating July 11 as a day to reflect and commemorate the tragic events in Srebrenica.

Qatar’s participation in the commemoration of the Srebrenica genocide in Sarajevo underscores the country’s commitment to promoting peace, justice, and human rights on the global stage. By voting in favor of the resolution to designate July 11 as an international day of reflection and commemoration, Qatar has shown its support for efforts to remember the victims of the genocide and prevent such atrocities from happening again.
