The Srebrenica genocide, which occurred in 1995, remains a dark chapter in Bosnia and Herzegovina’s history. Thousands of Bosnian Muslims were brutally killed in the town of Srebrenica by Bosnian Serb forces, in what has been described as the worst atrocity in Europe since World War II. The international community has recognized the genocide, with the United Nations designating July 11 as a day to reflect and commemorate the tragic events in Srebrenica.
