Doha, Qatar – The Qatar Armed Forces recently concluded its annual cross-country running championship at Al Bidda Park, fostering physical fitness and camaraderie among service members. The event, held in Doha, drew participants from various branches of the military and key internal security forces. Competition was divided into age categories, showcasing a range of athletic abilities within Qatar’s defense and security apparatus.

The championship, which took place this week, saw representation from 14 teams within the Qatar Armed Forces, alongside three teams each from the Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya), the General Directorate of Passports, and the Police College. The event underscores the importance Qatar places on maintaining a physically prepared and resilient security force. Results were announced following the final race, with awards presented to the top-performing teams in each age bracket.

Qatar Armed Forces Promotes Fitness Through Cross-Country Running

The cross-country running championship is a recurring event designed to enhance the physical endurance and overall health of personnel within Qatar’s military and security organizations. Regular physical training is a cornerstone of modern armed forces, contributing to operational readiness and the well-being of service members. This year’s competition at Al Bidda Park provided a challenging course for participants.

Age Category Results

The Police College team emerged victorious in the under-40 age category, demonstrating strong performance and teamwork. This win highlights the rigorous training regimen implemented at the Police College, which prepares future law enforcement officers for demanding physical tasks. The Qatar Amiri Air Force secured first place in the 40-to-50 age group, showcasing the continued fitness of its experienced personnel.

Meanwhile, Lekhwiya, Qatar’s internal security force, claimed the top spot in the over-50 category. This result emphasizes the dedication to fitness maintained by Lekhwiya veterans, crucial for their ongoing roles in national security. The diverse participation and competitive spirit across all age groups were noted by organizers.

The event wasn’t solely focused on competition. According to reports, a significant emphasis was placed on promoting a healthy lifestyle and encouraging participation from all levels of fitness. This aligns with broader national initiatives aimed at improving public health and well-being.

At the closing ceremony, Major General Youssef Dasmal Al Kuwari, President of the Military Sports Federation, presented medals to the winning teams and crowned the individual champions. He also recognized and honored the team with the highest participation rate, acknowledging their commitment to the event and to physical fitness. This recognition aims to incentivize continued involvement in future sporting activities.

The inclusion of teams from Lekhwiya and the General Directorate of Passports in the cross-country running championship signifies a collaborative approach to physical preparedness across Qatar’s security sectors. Joint training exercises and competitions like these can improve inter-agency coordination and build stronger working relationships. This is particularly important in a region facing complex security challenges.

Qatar has been steadily investing in its military and internal security infrastructure, including facilities for training and recreation. Al Bidda Park, the venue for the championship, is a prime example of the country’s commitment to providing accessible spaces for physical activity. The park’s well-maintained trails and open spaces are ideal for events like this, promoting both fitness and community engagement.

Looking ahead, the Military Sports Federation is expected to announce dates for other sporting events throughout the year, potentially including competitions in football, basketball, and volleyball. The timing and scope of these events will likely depend on ongoing national priorities and any adjustments to public health guidelines. Further details regarding future sports events and initiatives within the Qatar Armed Forces will be closely watched by those interested in the country’s defense and security capabilities.

The success of this year’s championship suggests continued support for athletic programs within Qatar’s armed forces and security agencies. The focus on physical training and inter-agency collaboration is expected to remain a key component of Qatar’s national security strategy.
