The Public Prosecution in Bahrain has taken a proactive approach to protect children from online exploitation and cyber extortion by launching a national awareness campaign in collaboration with various government ministries and agencies. The campaign, which is set to run until the end of 2024, aims to educate children, parents, and the public about the dangers of cyber exploitation and extortion. The initiative was inaugurated with the presence of senior officials from the Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Social Development, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Justice, Islamic Affairs and Waqf, and Ministry of Information.

During the campaign launch, Attorney General Dr. Ali bin Fadl Al Buainain highlighted the importance of monitoring the causes and practices leading to crimes against children, analyzing their impact, and identifying ways to address these issues. Minister of Social Development Osama bin Ahmed Khalaf Al Asfoor emphasized the significance of community partnership in raising awareness among children and families about safety and security. Minister of Education Dr. Mohammed Juma commended the collaboration between his ministry and the organizing bodies, recognizing the importance of educating children on the risks associated with online activities.

Lt-General Tariq Al-Hassan, Chief of Public Security, acknowledged the widespread use of cyberspace and the corresponding risks and threats it poses, particularly to children. He emphasized the need for collective efforts to protect children from online exploitation and extortion. The national awareness campaign aims to equip children and parents with the necessary knowledge and skills to navigate the digital landscape safely, while also raising awareness among the general public about the dangers of cyber-related crimes.

The launch of the national awareness campaign signals a united front against cyber exploitation and extortion, with various government ministries and agencies coming together to tackle this pressing issue. By fostering collaboration and partnership across different sectors, the campaign aims to create a safer online environment for children in Bahrain. Through educational initiatives and outreach programs, the campaign seeks to empower children and parents to recognize and respond to online threats effectively.

As the campaign unfolds over the coming years, it will continue to engage with schools, communities, and the public to enhance awareness and understanding of cyber-related risks. By fostering a culture of vigilance and responsibility online, the campaign aims to reduce the vulnerability of children to online exploitation and extortion. With the involvement of key stakeholders and government bodies, the campaign is positioned to make a significant impact in safeguarding children from digital threats and ensuring their safety and well-being in the online world.
