The fish industry in the Sultanate of Oman is experiencing significant growth, with the number of fish factories reaching 114 by the end of 2023. These factories play a crucial role in providing value-added fish products, promoting sustainable development, and diversifying the economy. The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Water Resources has highlighted the importance of the fish sector in achieving food security and utilizing fish resources effectively. In line with Oman Vision 2040, the government aims to enhance innovation in the fish industry to meet the aspirations and goals of the nation.

To ensure the quality and safety of fish products manufactured in Oman, 81 factories have been granted a fish quality control and export certificate. This certification is essential for adhering to international standards relating to food product quality and safety, which ultimately enhances the reputation of Omani fish products in the global market. By meeting these standards, Omani fish factories can access export opportunities and expand their presence in international markets, contributing to the growth of the fish industry and the economy as a whole.

Fish manufacturing activities in Oman encompass a range of projects focused on processing, packaging, and freezing fish fillets, as well as canning fish and producing various food products from aquatic resources such as fish burgers and fish fingers. These initiatives are designed to meet the needs of both local and foreign consumers, catering to a diverse range of preferences and demands in the fish products market. By offering a variety of high-quality fish products, Omani factories are well positioned to capitalize on domestic and international opportunities in the thriving fish industry.

The expansion of fish factories in Oman reflects the country’s commitment to promoting sustainable development and economic diversification. With a focus on utilizing fish resources effectively and enhancing innovation in the sector, the government aims to position Oman as a leading player in the global fish industry. By fostering local production and adhering to international standards, Omani fish factories are able to meet the growing demand for high-quality fish products both at home and abroad, contributing to the overall growth and success of the industry.

As the fish industry continues to expand in Oman, the government remains dedicated to supporting and enhancing the sector through various initiatives and programs. By providing quality control and export certifications, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Water Resources is helping to ensure that Omani fish products meet international standards and are well positioned for success in global markets. With the number of fish factories in Oman on the rise, the future looks promising for the Sultanate’s fish industry, with opportunities for growth and innovation driving the sector forward in line with Oman Vision 2040 and the nation’s long-term development goals.
