Minister of Labor and Director-General of ILO discuss collaboration

Minister of Labour H E Dr. Ali bin Smaikh Al Marri met with Director-General of the International Labour Organization H E Gilbert Houngbo in Geneva, Switzerland. They discussed joint cooperation between Qatar and the International Labour Organization and strategies to enhance this collaboration in the future. Additionally, Dr. Al Marri met with the Permanent Representative of the African Union to the United Nations in Geneva H E Ambassador Amr Aboualatta to discuss mechanisms for enhancing joint cooperation between Qatar and the African Union in the labour sector.

The State of Qatar recently hosted the Doha Dialogue on Labour Mobility, which aimed to strengthen coordination between 33 Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries and African countries on the movement of African labor to the Gulf states, Jordan, and Lebanon. This initiative highlights Qatar’s commitment to promoting dialogue and cooperation in the labor sector at the regional and international levels.

The meeting between Dr. Al Marri and H E Gilbert Houngbo focused on ways to further develop collaboration between Qatar and the International Labour Organization. Their discussions revolved around strategies to enhance joint efforts in various areas related to labor rights and regulations, aiming to ensure the well-being and rights of workers in both Qatar and globally.

In addition to discussing labor mobility and cooperation with the African Union, Dr. Al Marri and H E Ambassador Amr Aboualatta explored ways to support and develop collaboration in the labor sector. By identifying key strategies and mechanisms, they aim to strengthen partnerships between Qatar and African countries to improve labor conditions and promote workers’ rights.

The State of Qatar’s role in hosting the Doha Dialogue on Labour Mobility signifies its commitment to promoting dialogue and cooperation in the labor sector. Through initiatives like this, Qatar aims to enhance collaboration with other countries and organizations to address common challenges and create a more inclusive and equitable labor environment for all workers.

Overall, the meetings between Minister of Labour H E Dr. Ali bin Smaikh Al Marri and international partners like the International Labour Organization and the African Union reflect Qatar’s dedication to advancing labor rights and cooperation on a global scale.
