A group of Members of Parliament (MPs) in Bahrain have put forth a proposal to establish a national platform dedicated to identifying and facilitating the repair of homes owned by low-income citizens. Spearheaded by MPs Basma Mubarak, Mamdouh Al Saleh, Dr. Mahdi Al Showaikh, Abdulnabi Salman, and Hanan Fardan, the proposal aims to tackle the pressing issue of home repairs among the less fortunate population in the country. The MPs argue that timely and minor repairs can help extend the lifespan of these homes at a lower cost, preventing the need for extensive and expensive repairs in the future.

The explanatory memorandum accompanying the proposal sheds light on the challenges faced by low-income families residing in deteriorating or at-risk homes. It emphasizes the importance of preserving older properties not only for their practical benefits but also for their cultural significance in maintaining Bahrain’s unique architectural character and rich Islamic heritage. By repairing these older homes, the MPs aim to contribute to the preservation of the country’s historical legacy while also providing much-needed support to vulnerable communities.

The proposed national platform would involve collaboration between various ministries, including the Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning, the Ministry of Works, the Ministry of Municipalities, and the Ministry of Social Development. The MPs also suggest offering temporary and suitable housing for families affected by the repair process, ensuring that the needs of the citizens are met adequately throughout the renovation period. This comprehensive and coordinated approach to addressing housing needs is seen as a significant step towards supporting vulnerable populations in Bahrain.

The initiative put forth by the MPs not only addresses the immediate need for home repairs among low-income citizens but also aims to create a sustainable framework for preserving and maintaining the country’s architectural heritage. By focusing on preventive maintenance and timely repairs, the national platform seeks to improve the quality of life for vulnerable communities while upholding Bahrain’s cultural identity and historical legacy. The collaboration between key ministries underscores the government’s commitment to addressing housing issues and supporting those in need.

Overall, the proposal for a national platform for home repairs for low-income citizens in Bahrain represents a proactive and holistic approach to addressing the housing needs of vulnerable communities. By emphasizing the importance of preserving older homes and providing timely repairs, the MPs seek to not only improve living conditions for low-income families but also contribute to the conservation of Bahrain’s unique architectural heritage. The proposed collaboration between ministries and the provision of temporary housing further highlight the government’s commitment to ensuring the well-being of all citizens, especially those in need of assistance.
