A 42-year-old man in Bahrain has been sentenced to five years in prison for assaulting, kidnapping, and robbing a woman he had invited to his apartment for lunch, as reported by the NewsofBahrain. The High Appeals Court upheld the original sentence handed down by the lower court, following a harrowing incident that left the victim visibly distressed and bruised.

The victim, who was acquainted with the defendant, accepted his invitation for lunch at his apartment. However, upon her arrival, he locked the door, confiscated her phones, and stole her purse containing valuable items. The situation quickly escalated as the man began to physically assault her with a metal rod, inflicting around 15 blows to her head and body. The victim managed to escape to the kitchen where she grabbed a knife and barricaded herself in the bathroom, but the defendant broke down the door and continued the assault with a glass water bottle.

After confining the victim to the apartment balcony for approximately two hours, a hotel security guard, hearing her cries for help, intervened. The guard found the defendant in a suspicious state and the victim visibly distressed and bruised. Despite the victim’s attempts to signal for help, the defendant dismissed the guard’s concerns and forced him to leave.

Police were eventually contacted and upon arrival, the defendant attempted to deceive them by claiming the victim was his wife and that he was treating her with a Quran. He initially refused to allow the police to speak with her, but eventually, the victim was able to confirm the abuse she had endured. The next day, the security guard reported the defendant behaving suspiciously, which further prompted police involvement.

The victim, who lacked residency permits and initially hesitated to fully report the incident, eventually came forward with the details of the assault. The defendant’s disturbing actions and the victim’s traumatic experience serve as a reminder of the importance of speaking up and seeking help in situations of abuse and violence. The sentence handed down by the High Appeals Court sends a strong message that such behavior will not be tolerated, and justice will be served in cases of assault and abuse.
