The survey conducted by global HR solutions firm Adecco revealed that 67 per cent of employees in the UAE are looking to switch jobs immediately, showing a significant increase in job mobility and a willingness to explore new career paths. The main reasons behind this job switch include limited career progression, uncompetitive pay, rising cost of living, poor work-life balance, inadequate employee benefits, and lack of work flexibility.

Mayank Patel, SVP and head of Adecco EEMENA and country head Middle East, highlighted that candidates are now more focused on career pursuits, with discussions during interviews revolving around job security, work-life balance, career progression opportunities, and competitive compensation. While salary remains a significant motivator, other factors such as good work-life balance, company culture, career prospects, and job security also play crucial roles in job decisions.

Adecco’s work trend report, based on insights gathered from 507 professionals across various industries, revealed that a significant number of mid-senior level candidates within the technology and software services industry are looking to switch jobs, followed by candidates in banking, construction, engineering, logistics, retail, and luxury sectors. However, 15 to 20 per cent of professionals are not looking to switch jobs and are focused on progressing within their current roles.

In terms of hiring sectors, the UAE is undergoing a transformation in recruitment due to factors like the increasing expatriate population, technological advancements, emphasis on diversity and inclusion, and evolving skill requirements. Nearly half of the employees are optimistic about the job market in sectors such as information technology, software services, retail and luxury, and transport and logistics. Patel also indicated a surge in hiring activities in sectors like IT, banking, retail, logistics, e-commerce, hospitality, oil and gas, and sustainable green jobs in 2024.

Overall, the job market in the UAE is witnessing a shift with a large number of employees looking to switch jobs due to various factors, while some professionals are focused on progressing within their current roles. Employers need to consider factors like career progression opportunities, competitive compensation, work-life balance, and job security to attract and retain top talent in the competitive job market. Adecco’s insights provide valuable information for employers and job seekers alike to navigate the evolving job landscape in the UAE.
