The Regional Sustainable Development Forum (RSD) recently concluded in Cairo, Egypt, with the Generation Amazing Foundation (GA) of Qatar receiving the Excellence in Sports Award. The forum, held under the patronage of Egypt’s Ministries of Youth and Sports and Environment, highlighted impactful initiatives promoting sustainable development across the Middle East and North Africa. This recognition underscores the lasting impact of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and positions GA as a leading model for community-focused development programs.

Organized by Aspire Community Transformation and hosted at Heliopolis University for Sustainable Development, the second edition of the RSD brought together regional leaders and organizations dedicated to advancing social and environmental progress. The event served as a platform to showcase innovative approaches and celebrate achievements in areas like youth empowerment, environmental conservation, and inclusive growth. The award ceremony took place on the sidelines of the main forum discussions.

Generation Amazing Foundation Honored for Sustainable Development Impact

The Excellence in Sports Award acknowledges the Generation Amazing Foundation’s significant contributions to social transformation through sport. Since its inception, GA has positively impacted over 1 million beneficiaries in 75 countries, utilizing football and other sports to cultivate essential life skills. These skills include communication, leadership, teamwork, and compassion, fostering a more inclusive and equitable society.

Leveraging Sport for Social Change

GA’s methodology centers on using sport as a catalyst for positive change. The foundation’s programs are designed to advance inclusion, promote gender equality, and encourage environmental sustainability. According to the organization, this approach aligns with both the UN Sustainable Development Goals and Qatar’s National Vision 2030.

Nasser Al Khori, Executive Director of Generation Amazing Foundation, expressed gratitude for the award, stating it reaffirmed the enduring legacy of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. He emphasized the foundation’s commitment to expanding its programs and deepening partnerships to benefit more young people across the region. This expansion will likely focus on scaling successful models and adapting them to diverse local contexts.

However, challenges remain in ensuring the long-term sustainability of these initiatives. Funding, capacity building, and effective monitoring and evaluation are crucial for maximizing impact. The RSD forum highlighted the need for increased collaboration between governments, NGOs, and the private sector to address these challenges.

The recognition of GA’s work also comes at a time of growing global focus on social impact and the role of sport in achieving development objectives. Organizations are increasingly recognizing the power of sport to reach marginalized communities and promote positive social change. This trend is driving increased investment in sport for development programs worldwide.

Meanwhile, the Egyptian Ministry of Youth and Sports has indicated a commitment to incorporating lessons learned from the RSD forum into its national development strategies. This includes exploring opportunities to leverage sport for youth empowerment and community development. The ministry also plans to strengthen partnerships with regional organizations like the Generation Amazing Foundation.

Looking ahead, the Generation Amazing Foundation plans to continue expanding its reach and deepening its impact. The foundation is currently evaluating new program opportunities and exploring partnerships with additional organizations. The next phase of development will likely involve a greater emphasis on measuring the long-term outcomes of its programs and demonstrating their contribution to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. Further details regarding specific expansion plans are expected to be announced in the coming months, though timelines remain subject to funding and logistical considerations.
