The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has recently announced that there will be no changes in the existing curriculum or textbooks for all classes except for grades 3 and 6. This decision was made in accordance with a notice released by the board, which reiterated that CBSE-affiliated schools should continue using the same textbooks as the previous academic year. The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) informed CBSE that new syllabi and textbooks for grades 3 and 6 are currently being developed and will soon be released. As a result, schools are advised to adopt these new syllabi and textbooks for classes 3 and 6 in place of the previous NCERT textbooks.
For the academic year 2024-25, starting from April 1, 2024, there will be no changes in the curriculum or textbooks for other classes apart from grades 3 and 6. CBSE will provide the annual curriculum for classes 9 to 12, including academic content, examination syllabi, learning outcomes, pedagogical practices, and assessment guidelines. These guidelines are based on the National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCF-SE) 2023, which the board has adopted. Schools are advised to align their practices with the recommendations outlined in NCF-SE-2023, including content, pedagogical strategies, assessment methodologies, and other relevant areas as communicated by the Board.
CBSE also emphasized the importance of adhering to the guidelines provided by the Board from time to time. The curriculum for the academic year 2024-25 will be accessible on the website ‘www.cbseacademic.nic.in’, where schools can find the curriculum for classes 9 to 12 by following the link for secondary and senior secondary school curriculum. The board aims to facilitate a seamless transition for students to the new pedagogical practices and areas of study aligned with NCF-SE 2023, as a bridge course for grade 6 and concise guidelines for grade 3 are being developed by NCERT.
