His Excellency Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Minister of Foreign Affairs, recently attended the Asian Cooperation Dialogue (ACD) Ministerial Meeting in Iran. The meeting, led by Dr. Ali Bagheri Kani, Acting Foreign Minister of Iran, discussed the outcomes of the 33rd Arab Summit hosted by Bahrain in May. During the summit, Arab nations reiterated their commitment to establishing peace in the Middle East and supporting the rights of the Palestinian people. Dr. Al Zayani highlighted the importance of the Arab Summit’s decisions, which included calls for a UN-backed international peace conference aimed at establishing an independent Palestinian state.

At the ACD Ministerial Meeting, Dr. Al Zayani emphasized the significance of the support from ACD member countries for initiatives supporting Palestinian rights. He mentioned that Bahrain, as the chair of the ACD meeting in 2021-2023, is focusing on “Post-Pandemic Sustainable Recovery” as its theme. Dr. Al Zayani praised member states for successfully overcoming challenges brought about by the global pandemic. Additionally, Bahrain has proposed initiatives related to providing essential education and healthcare services to those affected by conflicts, in collaboration with international organizations. The minister stressed the need for continued support from ACD countries to ensure the success of these initiatives.

The minister highlighted that the Arab Summit’s decisions reinforced the Arab nations’ unwavering support for the Palestinian cause, including the right to freedom, dignity, and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state. The meeting also saw discussions on initiatives presented by Bahrain to support Palestinian rights, in addition to advocating for international recognition of Palestine as a full UN member.

As the current Chair of the ACD meeting, Bahrain is leading efforts towards post-pandemic recovery and sustainable development. Dr. Al Zayani expressed optimism about the progress made by member states in overcoming the challenges posed by the global pandemic. The minister reiterated the importance of collective action and support from ACD countries to implement initiatives aimed at providing essential services to conflict-affected populations. By focusing on “Post-Pandemic Sustainable Recovery,” Bahrain aims to drive regional collaboration and contribute to the overall well-being of the ACD member states.
