The Bahrain Chess Academy team has traveled to the United Arab Emirates to participate in the 30th Abu Dhabi International Chess Festival, where they will be competing against players from 76 different nations. The team’s involvement is part of the KHK SPORTS program initiated by the Khalid bin Hamad Sports Organisation, which aims to support various sports activities. This program is in line with His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa’s “Gold Generation” scheme, which aims to nurture talented young athletes in Bahrain. The festival features 27 tournaments with a total prize pool of AED 450,000 and also commemorates the centenary of the International Chess Federation.

Leading the Bahrain Chess Academy team is International Master Mohamed Tissir, an African champion and Olympic gold medalist in chess. Tissir has been intensively training the players for the past two months in preparation for the competition. The team consists of talented players such as Hamza Mohamed, Abdullah Makki, Mariam Mohamed, Marwan Al Binali, Mohamed Taqi, Fares Qun’eir, Youssef Mohamed, and Wafa Yaqoub. Wafa Yaqoub from Bahrain’s women’s national team will also be competing in the Women’s category and is set to participate in the Chess Olympiad in Budapest this September. The team’s participation in the Abu Dhabi International Chess Festival is part of their busy international schedule, which includes events such as the Chess Olympiad in Hungary, the School Olympiad in Bahrain, the Arab Youth Championship in Tunisia, and the Asian Amateur Chess Championship in Al Ain later this year.

The Abu Dhabi International Chess Festival is a prestigious event that attracts top chess players from around the world. With over 2,000 players participating in the tournament, it provides a platform for young talents to showcase their skills and compete against the best in the world. The festival offers a total prize pool of AED 450,000, making it an attractive opportunity for players to test their abilities and potentially earn rewards for their performance. This year’s event also marks the centenary of the International Chess Federation, highlighting the long and rich history of chess as a sport.

The team’s participation in various tournaments and championships is a reflection of their dedication and commitment to the sport. Through their involvement in such events, the players are not only gaining valuable experience but also representing their country on a global stage.
